KCDA has an exciting opportunity to work as a Social Worker in the Victim Services Unit.
The Victim Services Unit (VSU) of the Kings County District Attorney’s Office assists crime victims, witnesses, and their families in navigating the criminal justice system throughout the duration of the investigation and/or prosecution of the criminal case. The VSU team is collaborative, demonstrates good judgment, and is highly professional.
Under general supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the prospective candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention and criminal justice advocacy to crime victims and their families primarily victims of intimate partner violence.
- In collaboration with agency staff, assess the urgency of the victim’s needs and seek immediate assistance for those issues affecting the victim’s safety.
- Maintain contact with victims throughout the duration of the criminal case and make efforts to link victims with appropriate services in the community.
- Provide case management.
- Conduct outreach and training related to working with human trafficking victims
- Conduct on-scene/field interviews and needs assessments of victims after hours as necessary (Weekends and after 5:00 pm on Weekdays).
- Maintain cultural sensitivity, discretion, and integrity to work on highly confidential investigations.
- Perform other related duties
Additional Information
Candidates must meet the additional requirements:
- Must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health from an accredited school.
- Must have a valid Licensed Master of Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
- Must have at least 2+ years of work experience in Social Work.
Preferred Skills
- Bilingual candidates preferred( Spanish, Mandarin, Russian and Haitian Creole).
- At least 2+ years of experience in Mental Health.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines is necessary.
- Must have knowledge of counseling interventions with trauma victims; experience in victim services.
- Must have exceptional organizational skills, time-management and multi-tasking skills; and the ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work both independently and within a team
environment.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
