Position Summary:
The Department of Mathematics and Statistical Science at the University of Idaho is seeking to hire a Clinical Assistant Professor. As part of this position they will serve in the role as the Director of Introductory Mathematics to spearhead a dedicated team of instructors in a transformational revision of our introductory mathematics courses, applying modern pedagogical techniques to remove obstacles and promote student success. The University of Idaho is making an increased investment in the Department of Mathematics and Statistical Science by increasing the number of instructors in our introductory mathematics courses. The director will be responsible for overseeing this growing team of instructors and tutors and for using learning management software to support students and to assess the strengths and weakness of the program. The director will have the opportunity to collaboratively design and implement evidence-based curriculum and learning supports to have a measurable impact on student progress toward degree completion. The director will also have an opportunity to consult with the universitys associate director of assessment in support of course redesign. They will work with state-level agencies and faculty from other state colleges and universities to coordinate mathematics general education structures and guidelines.In addition to teaching classes in introductory (precalculus) mathematics, the director will be responsible for evaluating the introductory mathematics program and modifying its elements considering the student success data, managing the curricular and assessment materials for the introductory mathematics courses, supervising tutoring activities, and working with people at the department, college, university, and state levels about introductory mathematics.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
- Experience teaching mathematics or courses making extensive use of mathematics at the secondary or college level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching precalculus (including algebra and trigonometry).
- Evidence of excellence in teaching precalculus mathematics.
- Experience working as part of a team in an educational setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.
- Knowledge of evidence-based curriculum and pedagogy for introductory mathematics, including college algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus.
- Experience with database management.
- Expertise in assessment of student learning and teaching effectiveness.
