Hasbro is currently recruiting a motivated, playful, and creative design student to assist Hasbro’s SPARK R&D team. This group researches and presents relevant new technologies for future Hasbro products and develops the company’s highest complexity items across Hasbro’s broad portfolio of brands. As a Design Co-op, you will have a special focus on Star Wars, Power Rangers, Marvel, Dungeons & Dragons, and Hasbro Gaming.
As a co-op, it will be your responsibility to assist a cross-functional team in all stages of the design process. You will be exposed to, and assist in, a variety of tasks expected from a Hasbro Toy Designer including brainstorming ideas, sketching, concept evaluation and building early models. This position reports to an engineer but access to learning opportunities with other designers will be accessible and encouraged. TIn this new position you must be must be flexible and willing to experiment with working styles to help define the position.
A Day in the life of a Toy Designer on SPARK R&D:

Research Current trends in fashion, play and toy categories, creating mood boards and insight documentation to inspire and validate product direction.

Brainstorm new product ideas and categories within our development group; as well as leveraging teams across Hasbro for concept cross-pollination

Visualize new concepts via sketching, digital design, CAD, physical model building, and video editing.

Work Cross-Functionally with Entertainment, Engineering, Marketing, and Package/Brand Design to validate and refine concepts based on manufacturing realities and market trends.

Create testing stimulus and participate in both qualitative and quantitative testing to validate consumer insights and product direction.

Prepare for and help deliver internal presentations for new product concepts.

Create product and plush/soft good specification packages (using Adobe illustrator and Photoshop) to define product specifics for development.

Work with overseas partners and mass manufacturing vendors to complete product development. Evaluate models and production samples to ensure quality and experience are consistent with internal vision and true to brand standards.
Eligibility to apply:

Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student. Students graduating in or before July 2023 are not eligible for fall 2023 co-ops

Must be available to work full-time (40 hrs/wk) as a co-op from July-December 2023 or from September-December 2023.

Must commute to the Pawtucket, RI office and successfully work a hybrid model, with at least 3 days in office.

Co-op assignment can be either required or optional for graduation.

Completion of at least one year of study within an undergraduate design program (Industrial, Product, Toy, or Fashion Design) or Illustration program.

Strong skills in sketching and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Skilled in 3D sculpting with ZBrush, Blender, Geomagic Freeform or equivalent
- Passion for collaboration, play and consumer product development

Candidates are responsible for their own housing & transportation (free parking). Hasbro headquarters are in Pawtucket, RI, 6.5 miles from the Attleboro, MA commuter rail station. We offer shuttle service to/from the office/commuter rail station.
Preference will be given to candidates with:

Project work or co-op experience in product design, animatronics, soft goods, mechanism design CAD, and/or other prototyping
