Mechanical Engineer

About Coco
At Coco, we’re dedicated to perfecting the last-mile delivery experience through robotics. We believe the delivery service industry in its current state is massively under-serving merchants, and we are committed to creating a sustainable, reliable, and frictionless delivery experience for merchants and their customers.

Coco is a venture-backed, Series A stage startup that operates hundreds of delivery robots, serving thousands of customers every week worldwide. The environment here is high-energy, collaborative, and exciting. Our HQ is located in Playa Vista, Los Angeles.

About the Role
As a Mechanical Engineer at Coco, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing our robotic delivery vehicles and related products. You will work closely with product managers, electrical and software engineers, operations teams, and external partners to bring innovative hardware solutions from concept through production. Your work will directly impact Coco’s mission by improving reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness of our robot fleets. You’ll own projects end-to-end—defining requirements, managing timelines, ensuring product quality, and iterating based on user and stakeholder feedback.

Note: This is an in-office role. Coco is an office-first, highly collaborative and cross-functional company. We are looking for someone who is excited about the energy, collaboration, and culture-building opportunities of an in-office work environment.

About the Team
As a member of our Hardware Engineering team, you’ll join a group of creative and driven engineers who are passionate about delivering tangible results. We work at the intersection of mechanical design, electrical systems, manufacturing, and logistics, ensuring our robots are designed and built to support Coco’s rapidly growing delivery operations. Our responsibilities include:

  • Mechanical Design & Engineering: From initial concept sketches to full-scale production, we design robot assemblies, sub-systems, and components that balance cost, reliability, manufacturability, and user experience.

  • Manufacturing & Production: We collaborate with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal teams to refine designs, validate prototypes, and efficiently transition to mass production.

  • Continuous Improvement: We employ data-driven methodologies to optimize and refine existing hardware systems—improving durability, reducing costs, and increasing scalability.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Hardware does not exist in a vacuum. We partner closely with software, operations, and customer-facing teams to ensure that every change we make is aligned with Coco’s broader strategic initiatives and product goals.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field of study, or equivalent professional experience

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, developing consumer, industrial, automotive, or aerospace products

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and expertise in generating production-ready technical drawings

  • Demonstrated experience designing for one or more manufacturing processes (e.g. injection molding, thermoforming, FDM and SLA printing, casting, sheet metal fabrication, machining, finishing)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  • Mastery of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Experience in designing parts for rapid prototyping and high-volume production

  • Familiarity with mechatronic assemblies and vehicle suspension systems

  • Proven ability to drive projects from concept through production, balancing technical rigor with cost and schedule constraints
