Communication Dispatcher I - Night Shift - (24000A0E)DescriptionThe Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea (MVH) is a long-term care facility for veterans that is recognized by the US Department of Veteran Affairs, licensed by the MA Department of Public Health, Certified by the CMS and managed by the Executive Office of Veterans Services. The home provides a full range of skilled long term care services and programs along with ancillary services.The Communication Dispatcher I role handles all incoming and outgoing calls; monitors fire alarm system. Responsible for maintaining patients/residents information such as location/phone number in computer file. Acts as a receptionist. Ability to use paging system. Ability to initiate proper procedures for all codes (med stat, code red, code 99).DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Answers incoming calls in appropriate manner.• Places outside calls when asked to assist.• Assists in training of any new operator.• Responsible for equipment during shift.• Is courteous to all persons that call or ask for information.• Is able to respond appropriately to all emergency calls.• Communicates effectively.• Ability to work a flexible schedule.• Uses radio system to communicate with security staff.• Uses beeper and paging systems to communicate with staff.• Reports equipment failure to proper persons.• Keeps accurate record of all Code 99’s, Code Reds, Med Stats, etc.• Keeps accurate record of all daily incidents.• Ability to input data into computer system.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:• Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language• Ability to speak clearly and distinctly• Ability to deal tactfully with others.• Ability to make decisions and act quickly in emergency situations.• Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and/or symbols.• Ability to maintain accurate records.• Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.• Basic computer skills.QUALIFICATIONS ACQUIRED ON JOB:• Knowledge of the use of radio, beeper and paging systems.• Knowledge of the proper procedures when handling emergency calls such as Medical Stats and Code Reds.• Knowledge of the standard procedures governing the use of telephone switchboard and/or other• Communication equipment.• Knowledge of the proper telephone procedures for making and receiving agency calls.• Knowledge of the types and uses of agency formsAbout The Massachusetts Veterans Home At Chelsea:The Massachusetts Veterans Home (MVH) at Chelsea is an independent state agency that organizationally report to the Secretary of the Executive Office of Veterans Services (EOVS).
