Full Salary Range: Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for the position is $22.29 to 39.12/hr. The hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.29 - 30.59/hr.

Work Location: 2120C Harold Frank Hall

Working Days and Hours: M-F; 8am - 5pm

Department Profile

Computer Science is a medium-sized department, with 40 faculty, 1225 graduate and 600 undergraduate students. Since its founding in 1979, the department has climbed rapidly in reputation and influence. The most recent ranking by the National Research Council (NRC) places the department among the top 10 in the country. Our faculty have received highest honors and awards from professional societies, including membership in the National Academy of Engineering, and Fellowships of ACM, IEEE, and SIAM. Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under the supervision of the Academic Personnel and Operations Coordinator, the Communications and Special Events Assistant provides administrative support to the Department Chair and Business Officer. Helps develop the Computer Science department's outreach and communication. Assists in planning and implementing departmental conferences, colloquia and special events including the annual CS Summit and the weekly Theory seminar series. Maintains the department website and social media presence.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years clerical experience.
  • Thorough knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize workload and work independently under pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with complex policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of UC travel and entertainment policies.
  • Knowledge of Drupal.
  • Familiarity with Concur.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

  • 35% Special Events - Assists in planning and implementing departmental conferences, colloquia, and special events including weekly colloquia, quarterly distinguished lectures and annual CS Summit. Helps manage logistics including event timelines, catering, hotel reservations, room reservations. Assists with travel and scheduling of faculty candidates during recruitment. Assist in coordinating annual Department BBQ, Faculty Retreat and other department events. Assists in coordinating annual Advisory board visits including travel planning and scheduling.
  • 30% Department Communications - Under the supervision of the Public relations committee, helps develop marketing and branding of the Computer Science department. Writes content for website and printed material including departmental newsletter. Researches, writes and edits copy. Responsible for keeping news on website up to date. Maintains department presence on social media including Facebook and Twitter. Produces programs for CS Summit and posters for Distinguished lectures. Assists Department Chair with presentation materials.
  • 25% Chair's Asssitant - Provides administrative support to the Department Chair including maintaining the Chair's calendar, managing emails to the chair's functional account, drafts memos and power point slides. Provides administrative support to the Business Officer as needed.
  • 10% Website Maintenance - Adds new content and updates existing content on department website as received from faculty and staff.
