Communications Specialist Job

Summary:


The Communications Specialist supports the development and execution of external communications strategies to achieve the objectives of the integrated Arkema Americas corporate communications program. The successful candidate will work closely with the Manager, Media Relations and Executive Communication, to implement proactive earned media relations strategies and manage the Arkema Americas social media channels to elevate brand awareness and thought leadership. This role is part of a small team that offers opportunities to develop through involvement in a wide range of internal and external communication strategies and crisis preparedness and response approaches. We are seeking a self-motivated candidate with exceptional writing skills, and a proven track record of securing top-tier and trade media placements.


Key Responsibilities:


Media Relations & Social Media (70%)

  • Support the development of external communication strategies to increase awareness of Arkema and achieve desired brand positioning among key audiences
  • Draft media relations materials including pitches, contributed content, briefing materials and press releases
  • Identify and pitch proactive story angles in support of key strategies, and build relationships with reporters
  • Analyze media landscape and determine trends and opportunities for Arkema
  • Assist in managing the response to inbound media inquiries
  • Research, create and manage media lists, track media coverage and develop reports using Meltwater
  • Work with agency to create organic social content for Arkema Americas channels (Facebook and Twitter) and manage editorial calendar
  • Monitor social media conversations related to Arkema, review reporting from agency and optimize content strategies
  • Oversee compliance with, and training on, Arkema Social Media Policy
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders across various departments and business units to support external communications initiatives


Executive Communication (20%)

  • Support the development of presentations, speeches, video scripts, emails and other content for the Arkema regional leadership team


Crisis and Other Communications (10%)

  • Serve as an active member of the Arkema crisis communications team, and serve as back-up to Manager, Media Relations and Executive Communication on the Crisis Management Team
  • Support the management of corporate sponsorships and events
  • Lead or participate in other communications projects as needed

Education & Work Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related subject matter
  • At least 4 years of experience in communications, agency experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting and developing crisis communications is preferred
  • Experience with media tools such as Meltwater or Cision is preferred


Travel required (domestic and international) - less than 10% anticipated
