Software Engineer II

The Engineering Platform team is a mission-critical team within Compass’ Technology Infrastructure organization and is responsible for building tools and software that the rest of Compass depends on. Our mission is to build the tools that enable Compass Engineering to move fast for our customers and make it easy for engineers to develop, deploy, and monitor their software. Engineering Platform provides Compass engineers with best-in-class developer tooling, enabling them to merge, build, and deploy.

We are seeking a motivated backend software engineer (generalist) who wants to be a part of a fast-paced, startup-like environment. 

At Compass, you will:  

• Collaborate with engineers on your team to develop and extend best-in-class internal tooling, including our internal deployment platform, our command line interface, and a variety of other tools
• Work across the entire software development lifecycle – from local development to builds to deployment – enabling Compass engineers to move fast
• Identify opportunities to automate to improve developer velocity
• Participate in code reviews, document reviews, and other collaborative processes within your team
• Write and extend technical documentation (e.g. runbooks) for services your team owns

What we’re looking for:

• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years experience with one of our backend languages (python, go)
• Bash or Python scripting experience is strongly preferred
• Experience working on CI/CD systems is a plus
• Experience working with Bazel a plus
• Experience working on developer tooling is a plus
• Exposure to microservice architectures is a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $94,000-$142,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
