Computer Operator

Enhance your IT career at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Supercomputing Center in Dayton! SSI is seeking motivated and eager candidates, looking to take the next step in the IT field supporting our nation’s warfighters. This position allows you to build your skills in system administration and network support while supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) in transitioning technology into superior defense capabilities through the strategic application of high-performance computing, networking, and computational expertise.

The successful candidate will perform the following job duties:

• Monitoring advanced computing systems and high-speed networks.
• Monitors and operates high performance computers and peripheral electronic data processing equipment to process scientific, engineering, or other data according to operating instructions.
• Performing physical security checks at a state-of-the-art supercomputing data center.
• Interacting with System Administration staff to report and resolve issues to keep these important computer systems online and operational 24x7x365.
• Using a variety of tools and processes to determine the health of systems and networks.
• Applying fundamental concepts, processes, practices and procedures on technical assignments.
• Performing work that requires practical experience and training.
• Executing and monitoring a range of scheduled routines.
• Resolving common operating problems.
• Diagnosing and acting on computer output instructions and machine stoppage or error conditions.
• Applying standard operating and/or corrective procedures.
• May perform work incidental to machine operations such as maintaining production records, replenishing specified stock items, and distributing output materials.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

• High School and 6+ years’ working experience, or Associate’s and 4 years, or Bachelor’s and 2+ years
• Must be a US Citizen
• Must have active Secret clearance and/or be clearable to Secret

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• 2 years’ experience in various HPC systems, various HPC technologies
• A+, Net+ or Sec+ certifications
