Legal Assistant Job DescriptionAbout Us. Our Firm, founded in 1991, recently merged with another longstanding law firm to create a regional law firm offering legal services in civil litigation, family law, criminal defense, probate and disability law. The Statesville office of the Firm consists of three attorneys, two legal assistants, and a receptionist. The Firm is currently experiencing growth in the fields of family law, civil litigation, and criminal defense, and is now seeking an experienced, diligent, proactive legal assistant to help manage this growth.Who we are looking for. The ideal candidate has at least ten years of legal assistant experience in the fields of civil litigation or family law litigation to ensure client matters are kept running smoothly and that effective case management can be provided, under the supervision of an attorney. Skills needed include: being well-organized, professional, a self-starter, and responsible. The legal assistant will often be a first point of contact for our Firm clients, either in person or by telephone, and will need to be committed to communicating with clients to ensure that our clients enjoy the level of attention and service they have come to expect from our Firm. The assistant will assist with preparation of forms, maintaining case files, attorney calendars and scheduling. The legal assistant will ensure that all documents are complete and ready for courthouse, bank, and post office deliveries daily.ResponsibilitiesOur Firm is a general practice; therefore, the candidate’s job responsibilities will vary daily and will require flexibility and quick thinking. In general, the responsibilities will include:· Providing administrative support to the supervising attorney in the fields of civil litigation and family law litigation· Handling communication with clients· Answering telephones· Assisting with client intake· Office filing: both hard copy and electronic storage· Courthouse filing: knowledge of Court filing procedures and ability to interact with Court personnel· Scanning and copying documents· Assisting with the gathering of evidence from clients· Processing payments from clients in-person and onlineQualifications· A paralegal certificate is preferred but not required.· Bachelor or Associate degree preferred· Diligent and organized· Excellent communication skills and ability to work with clients of various socio-economic backgrounds· Strong computer skills· Proficiency with Clio, MyCase, or other cloud-based firm management software· Proficient with all Microsoft Office365 products – including Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive· Proficient with Adobe Pro: editing and manipulating .pdf documents· Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environmentCompensation: Hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:30p.m. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:• 401(k)• Free parking• Paid time offSchedule:• 8 hour shift• Monday to Friday• Weekends as neededAbility to Relocate:• Statesville, NC 28677: Relocate before starting work (Required)Work Location: In person
