Dentons US LLP is currently recruiting for a Conflicts Specialist who will be responsible for assisting with the review, identification and resolution of potential conflicts issues with respect to new business opportunities and to ensure compliance with ethical and professional rules of responsibility and risk. The successful candidate will have particular responsibility for assisting with conflicts checking across various jurisdictions, and identifying and resolving legal and business conflicts.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for clearing clients and matters for particular practice groups. Should conflicts issues require resolution, communicating in a confident and professional manner with partners, associates, assistants and other conflicts attorneys.
  • Review new intake forms to ensure party information submitted for conflicts checking is complete. Use internal and external databases to conduct research on prospective clients, adverse or involved parties and determining the status of relevant matters. This includes verifying open and closed dates, ascertaining the nature of an entity’s role in a particular matter, and producing and searching a corporate trees for new clients and adverse parties.
  • Review reports with fellow team members and the US Conflicts Manager to ensure search criteria applied would produce the appropriate hits in order to generate the conflict report.
  • Process client and matter revisions to ensure Elite data is up-to-date and valid.
  • Assist lawyers, secretaries and paralegals on how to utilize the conflicts system.
  • Other department projects as assigned by the US Conflicts Manager.
  • Work closely with other staff members in the department, lawyers, paralegals, secretaries and other levels of management.
  • Other duties, as needed or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. JD preferred.
  • One year of law firm experience. Previous experience in conflicts and intake advantageous.
  • Knowledge of applicable ethical rules and risk management requirements governing conflicts of interest and conflicts resolution processes.
  • Understanding of the type of work undertaken by a large global law firm along with an appreciation of commercial and legal terms. Keeping up-to-date with changes in the corporate landscape would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in technical applications. Knowledge of Intapp, a plus.
  • Utilize research applications such as Dun & Bradstreet and Capital IQ.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and assignments while maintaining tight deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel in a global market with tact and diplomacy.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours, provide coverage on holidays and weekends, as needed.
