JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) is seeking a highly motivated Consultant to join projects in our Health Services Division. This position is responsible for supporting our U.S.-based projects, which may focus on topics such as: strategies to advance health and racial equity, including addressing social determinants of health and other barriers to healthcare access; primary care/behavioral health integration; community health workforce integration; HIV and infectious diseases; women’s health, and maternal and child health; payment reform and Medicaid policy; safety-net service delivery, and multisector approaches to advancing population health.

The ideal candidate will have experience planning and managing the delivery of in-person and virtual technical assistance and training to a variety of audiences. They must be a flexible and enthusiastic individual with a desire to support JSI’s mission of promoting and improving health for all, with a focus on U.S. communities with unequal access to health-related resources. Candidates should have an understanding and interest in racial and health equity. Consultants support our technical work for clients including strategic planning, research, program evaluation, technical assistance and training, capacity building, health needs assessment, and health communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A successful JSI Consultant is a creative problem solver, able to quickly pivot in changing environments, and committed to advancing racially equitable approaches to improving policies and systems that affect health. All staff members work across multiple projects simultaneously with a high-level of individual accountability.

The Consultant role requires a variety of skills, and may require the individual to grow their skills and knowledge in the following areas:
  • Training and technical assistance management: Plan and facilitate virtual training and technical assistance, including identifying topics and presenters, preparing materials and resources, and ensuring smooth training delivery.
  • Development of project deliverables: Serve as subject matter expert and/or fill technical roles on multiple projects. Working as a key member of a collaborative team, develop project deliverables, such as policy briefs, webinars, and reports; and organize in-person and web-based convenings and presentations. Engage with individuals working in state and local health departments, community-based organizations, community health centers, and other settings of focus for project activities.
  • Facilitation: Coordinate and facilitate engaging meetings with clients, funders, partners, and other project stakeholders. Develop productive partnerships with other collaborating organizations, grantees, and stakeholders. Plan and implement activities to foster relationship-building.
  • Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis: Apply analytic thinking and creativity to the collection and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data. Provide input on evaluation and assessment tools and contribute to the development of summary reports.
  • Dissemination: Contribute to the development of dissemination products for select projects via a range of methods, such as conference presentations, white papers, media campaigns, and academic manuscripts.
  • Business development: Actively contribute to the strategic growth and diversification of JSI’s portfolio of projects through proposal writing, strategy development, and participation in internal work groups focused on business development, partnership development, project promotion, and individual professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in public health, health policy, or related field with 2-5 years of U.S.-based public health experience following completion of advanced degree. Individuals without a master’s degree but with at least 6 years of post-undergraduate experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Commitment to the field of public health, health policy, and/or health services delivery, including a commitment to advancing health and racial equity.
  • Demonstrated skills in the development and delivery of virtual and in-person training and technical assistance.
  • Demonstrated skills in project coordination/management, including establishing project work plans, processes, and protocols; managing timelines; supporting cross-functional teams; and building relationships through effective communication.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, written, oral and interpersonal communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience and interest in national and state policy issues.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the abilities to work on multiple projects with multiple project directors, work independently and proactively with minimal supervision, and participate in team-based project work.
  • Comfort working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Comfort with the MS Office package, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills.


Annual salary is $73,000-$82,000 (depending on years of experience - see Qualifications) plus excellent benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, and a 401k with a company match.
