Coordinator of Community Standards and Student Leadership, Residential Life

Reporting to the Director of Residential Life, the Coordinator of Community Standards and Student Leadership is responsible for is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the
residential student conduct process and our residential leadership initiatives. The Coordinator of Community Standards and Student Leadership implements procedures for incident response and community standards, and acts as the advisor for the Residence Hall Association. The Coordinator will also work in conjunction with our operations team, to oversee community standards and student leadership for our summer housing
program.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Provide oversight and management of residential student conduct processes, databases and critical incident follow up.
  • Maintain due process and a restorative, learning-centered philosophy when sanctioning and engaging in the conduct process.
  • Ensure the timely and thorough completion of conduct processes and case management.
  • Assist in supporting residential conduct policy analysis and development within Residential Life through formulating, managing, and implementing conduct and community
    standard program policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of educational sanctioning, including the online learning system for alcohol and other drug education, fire safety programming, and others.
  • Chair/Co-chair a departmental committee and provide leadership to an assigned area
  • Develop and oversee preventative programming for the residential population at large to address conduct trends impacting the community.
  • Assist in meeting Title IX training and education compliance in connection with the Dean of Students Office and Title IX Coordinator.
  • Coordinate on call scheduling for the department, ensuring that schedules are created and disseminated in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the department's training of paraprofessional staff, including leadership programming, Resident Assistant training, and all staff in-services.
  • Participate on committees including selection processes, opening and closing planning committees and other assignments as needed.
  • Oversee medical isolation process and student support.

Student Leadership

  • Advise student leaders in the Residence Hall Association (RHA), including providing guidance, feedback, and professional development through weekly meetings, one-on-one meetings, and training.
  • Support in developing Living Learning Communities in conjunction with Assistant Directors of Residential Education.
  • Support in selection and housing placement of residents in Living Learning Communities.

Summer Housing Programs

  • Work in conjunction with the operations team to plan our summer housing program.
  • Supervise and evaluate our Summer ACUHO-I intern.
  • Supervise and evaluate Summer Resident Assistants on a regular basis, including providing guidance, feedback, and professional development through weekly staff meetings, one-on-one meetings, and staff evaluations.
  • Facilitate staff development, foster staff unity and teamwork, motivate student staff and empower them to promote student learning and development.
  • Assist with the selection and training of student staff members.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1- 4 years of full-time experience in residential life, student conduct, student advising or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree specifically in higher education, student development, counseling, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience with administration of campus conduct procedures.
  • Knowledge of common and conduct-specific computer application programs.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent managerial, planning, supervisory, interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills
  • Effective written, verbal and technological communication skills
  • Knowledge in the areas of crisis intervention, conflict mediation, student and leadership development theory, student conduct administration, restorative practices, and safety and security programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, equity, and social justice; experience working with a diverse student population, supporting the needs of marginalized students, and
    engaging students and staff on issues of diversity and social justice
  • Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act and other state and federal laws as they relate to residential life administration
  • Engagement in the field of student affairs and higher education with an interest and willingness to learn, implement, and share best practices and new approaches
  • Capacity to work in a 24-hour/7-day environment with the ability to quickly respond to and handle situations for the entire residential campus
  • Positive attitude and excitement toward work. Ability to take initiative, work independently, and be a strong team member. The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to exercise sound judgment. A good sense of humor and a desire to laugh often are highly valued.

Additional Information:

  • The Coordinator of Community Standards and Support will keep regular office hours. Evening and weekend commitments will be required to fulfill the duties of the position from time to time.
  • This position is considered to be an essential personnel position for the department, and as such, may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are cancelled, and/or the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.


Staff in Residential Life are employees of the FIT Student Housing Corporation, a 501(c)(3) entity. Compensation and benefits are determined through the Housing Corporation governance process and are subject to change as such.



Total Compensation:

  • Starting Salary: $65,000.00 per year
  • Full-Time Benefits
  • Employee Holiday and Work Schedule


Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; evenings and weekends, work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
