Under the direction of the Manager of Library Applications Development, the Applications Programmer II will join a team of developers to provide expertise in delivering innovative, modern web-based experiences meeting the educational and research needs of Cornell library patrons, students, faculty, and staff.Core responsibilities include:• Support / enhance Library applications such as Discovery and Access, Digital Collections Portal, Spotlight, and others as needed. This will involve troubleshooting, programming, unit testing, and deployment of code.• Manage the progress of projects coordinating activities among stakeholders and track completion of tasks to full execution of each project.• Migrate legacy custom online exhibit websites into the Spotlight online exhibits application.• Apply best practices in testing, managing, and documenting application code.What We NeedRequired Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree with and up to two (2) years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.• Experience with web development and user experience.• Familiarity with web accessibility and website usability best practices.• Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS .• Willingness and ability to learn new technologies.• Demonstrated strong written and verbal and communication skills.University Related Requirements:• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.• Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color.• Experience working with diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing programs.• Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.• Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.• A cover letter and resume are required for further consideration for this position.• No Visa Sponsorship is available for this position.If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it’s ok if you don’t.Preferred Qualifications:• Experience with:• Spotlight or similar online library exhibit platforms.• Ruby on Rails.• Experience using tools such as JIRA or GitHub for issue tracking• Analyzing website usage statistics using tools such as Google Analytics or Matomo• Leading /developing training sessions for professionals.• Working in a library environment .• Using task tracking systems such as Jira .• Code lifecycle management with tools such as GitHub.• Familiarity with Agile development and best practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and working collaboratively in sprintsWhat We OfferRewards and Benefits• This position is based in Ithaca, New York, however, the successful applicant may perform this role remotely anywhere within the United States.
