BASIC ACCOUNTABILITY
The Corporate Reserves Professional will play an important role in upholding Devon’s commitment to integrity by helping to ensure the company’s internal reserves reports and related external disclosures, and the reserves information on which such reports and disclosures are based, were developed in compliance with applicable governance framework, including all legal and regulatory requirements. This position resides in the corporate reserves group, reporting to the Manager of Reserves & Economics.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in petroleum engineering, geology, or other discipline of engineering or physical science
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of practical experience in petroleum engineering or petroleum production geology, with at least 3 full years of such experience being in the estimation and evaluation of reserves information
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the applicable governance framework, including internal policies, SEC regulations and interpretations (S-K, S-X), FASB (Topic 932) and industry practices (SPE-PRMS, SPE Reserves Auditing standards)
- Develop and maintain a high level of trust and credibility with a diverse range of stakeholders, including executive management, internal and external auditors, corporate planning functions, business unit leadership, asset teams, accounting, finance, marketing, and business development
- Prepare and analyze reserves reports including cash flows, one-lines, and reconciliations
- Perform quality control procedures on reserves information, including SOX controls
- Review and update quality control procedures to ensure their effectiveness and relevance
- Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the business as needed
- Support efforts to inform stakeholders including the reserves committee of the board of directors
- Coordinate external reserves audits and internal reserves reviews
- Perform analysis on commodity price differentials, industry/peer results, and net book values
- Work independently and collaboratively on tasks and projects, demonstrating strong self-motivation, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Coordinate efforts with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate completion of deliverables
- Support corporate resource table management
- Collect, analyze and summarize information and trends
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks
- Support organizational training and development efforts around reserves
- Assume additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Strong foundation in reserves evaluation and petroleum economics
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
- Experience with petroleum economic evaluation software (Mosaic is a plus)
- Familiarity with PowerBI, Spotfire, Harmony, Databricks, Snowflake, Toad for Oracle, Python, and SQL are all beneficial
- Practice safe work habits at all times
- Knowledge in state/province and federal regulatory laws and regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Creativity to analyze data, solve complex problems, and communicate solutions
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project related goals
