Cost Analyst

Major Duties of the Job Holder

  • Help Finance team at units to ensure the development of a working environment that is conducive to the achievement of budgeted Departmental KPIs pertaining to cost;
  • Manage the installation and maintenance of costing systems to provide management with accurate and timely cost and operations records, information and advice to optimise management of costs;
  • Lead the annual development of both the Operating budget, including manpower and procurement to ensure compliance with established company parameters and timelines and provide line management with monthly reports on their respective cost performance (Actual v/s Budget) throughout the calendar year;
  • Ensure that adequate processes are in place to generate accurate financial and management reports which comply with company policies;
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of variances;
  • Raising early alerts for major deviations for taking course corrective actions;
  • Work with different stakeholders to reduce volatility in cost forecast;
  • Develop mechanism for weekly cost reporting at mining units;
  • Maintain a cost conscious environment which meets the good standards of the prevailing cost practices;
  • Review and analyse accuracy of all Cost records on continuous/ periodic basis;
  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls exist, have been documented and are effective at all sites consistent with the control framework used by units;
  • Work in conjunction with site management to ensure that control weaknesses identified are addressed in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Actively participate in the management of the business unit by generating ideas for improvement and interacting with site management;
  • Facilitate the implementation of cost controlling practices and policies across the organisation;
  • Facilitate process costing, cost control and analysis in order to assist operational and cost improvement;
  • Review total cost of employment, overtime, CBA impacts etc. regularly;
  • Coordinate the preparation of the BAR Quarterly report, cost bridges and cost analysis;
  • Assist the development of the annual budget and forecasts and calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to line manager;
  • Review, report and keep check over inventory and payables at units.

Safety duties

- Provide leadership necessary to ensure that employees and any contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that meet or exceed industry standards and any applicable legislation;

- Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed by the management;

- Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed;

- Ensure all health and hygiene risks in the work areas are identified and controlled.

Profile of the job holder :

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited university or Engineering degree with relevant experience in business controlling in Mining industry (holding a CMA/CA/ACCA certification would be a plus);
  • Minimum 5 years experience out of which 3 to 4 years in a cost controlling department;
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas;
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent;
  • Have a command in English and French;
  • Adaptability and resilience;
  • Have good working and interpersonal skills;
  • Be able to establish the root cause of any problem and establish effective communication structures with relevant departments and employees involved;
  • Ability to work with highly skilled and experienced personnel having diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Able to deliver results on quoted targets;
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and advanced spreadsheet applications;
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels;
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills;
  • Team player.
