Summer Internship - Public Health Data Science

Overview

The intern will assist in coordinating key data science projects and provide research to support RQC initiatives.

The intern will assist in data gathering and mastering from several legacy data sources and will support an in-flight data analysis effort. Candidates should have experience in coordinating research efforts as well as stewarding datasets from asynchronous feeds. Ideal candidates will have a deep interest in epidemiology or public health,

experimenting with new tools and designing studies using real-world evidence. We are looking for skills in data management, statistics, AI/ML tools, and healthcare data. This will be a great learning opportunity to pick up experience using large commercial datasets and interacting with healthcare data while solving real-world business problems.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assess, Design, and Document organizational structure for multi-product data mastering, document mastering, and data availability.
  • Manage calendars and meeting schedules for multiple work groups across RQC to support two key initiatives, including deliverables and meeting minutes.
  • Collaborate with business users, systems analysts, and/or development teams in defining, analyzing, and interpreting business and technical requirements.
  • Develop technical expertise in a number of data science supporting tools and datasets, including but not limited to:  Mircrosfot SQL Server, Data Robot, Spark, Marketscan, and CMS LDS.
  • Actively participate in research generation exercises and technology road mapping.
  • With guidance from the internal team, brainstorm and implement a research initiative using data and tools provided for dissemination through the company blog.
  • Track data for analysis and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist in the development of solutions or workarounds for unresolved defects.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties assigned.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

Qualifications

  • Student working towards a higher degree in Public Health, Information Systems, or Computer Science; pursuing Master's preferred with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong preference for those candidates with prior experience using health-related data (HIPPA, HITRUST) as well as AWS cloud knowledge. 
  • Experience and knowledge of ETL, Databases, Claim Databases, and Statistics.
  • Knowledge of an organizational methodology (Enterprise Architecture of Project Management)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access/connectivity and office setup and maintenance.
  • No adverse environmental conditions are expected.

Base compensation ranges from $21.00 to $30.00 per hour. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs. This role is based remotely, and all interviews will be conducted virtually.

 

Nonexempt employees are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a given week or as otherwise required by applicable state law.
