Creative Technology Intern, Summer 2023

As part of The Walt Disney Company, Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development builds upon a rich legacy of innovation and technology leadership in the entertainment industry that continues to this day. The R&D Imagineering Creative Technology Intern will support our multi-disciplinary, exploratory research and development team within Walt Disney Imagineering, working creatively with emerging tech to flush out blue sky concepts.

We design experiences, immersive narratives, gadgets, robotics, tangible interactions, etc. with the delight of our guests at the forefront of every project. At R&D, we have the unique opportunity to prototype quickly and push the boundaries of multi-modal storytelling - physical, visual, haptic, spatial, audio, AI, and gestural. Our department is structured in a manner where we welcome interdisciplinary creatives that don't necessarily fit into one box, but possess a reliable toolkit to effectively communicate conceptual ideas.

Qualifications:

• self starter mentality and a prototyping mindset
• a hunger and curiosity around tech-powered interactions
• sketching (or a reliable concept communication method)
• demonstrated hardware/software prototyping
• 3D modeling, design for manufacturing (Solidworks, Fusion360)
• Experience with motors, robotics, tech-enabled art installations
• cross-disciplinary, collaborative working style
• should thrive in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced studio environment

Applicants should be confident in their communication/prototyping skills from rough sketches to “designerly” finish. Our department's prototypes function as a source of inspiration and conversation for the greater WDI. If there is interest in taking our projects further, we collaborate with other teams for long-term execution and implementation.

A strong candidate possesses, above all, demonstrated passion, curiosity, and adaptability. We are looking for a fearlessness in candidates-perhaps not possessing all the skills at the get-go, but confidence in their ability to learn and execute on task.

Required Education

• Working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Industrial/Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, Digital + Media, electrical computer engineering or related technical disciplines

Location: on-site in Glendale, CA

The pay rate for this internship in Glendale,CA is $35.00 per hour.
