JOB SUMMARY

A crisis communications manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans to manage and mitigate the impact of crises, ensuring timely and effective messaging, maintaining organizational reputation, and preserving public trust during challenging situations. Additionally, this role must manage the Emergency Nuclear Communications (ENC) activities for the Southern Company system in coordination with operating companies and Southern Nuclear (SNC) to maintain operating licenses for all system nuclear facilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English or Marketing and five to seven years of experience in corporate communication or public relations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; master’s degree a plus.

Experience Requirements

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a corporate communication or media environment. Previous experience dealing with strategic communication planning preferred.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • This position will work closely with operating company and subsidiary communications teams to collaborate on crisis communication plan strategy and development.
  • Ensures operating companies have the playbooks necessary to execute in the event of a situation requiring customer and/or employee notification.
  • In the event of a system crisis, the successful candidate will work with operating company communication leads to coordinate timely and consistent responses.
  • Manage the Emergency Nuclear Communications (ENC) activities for the Southern Company system in coordination with operating companies and SNC to maintain operating licenses for all system nuclear facilities. Oversee and enhance ENC process on an ongoing basis to ensure best practices are implemented and program meets the communication needs of the company and changing media landscape.
  • Oversee and assist in the development and execution of multiple emergency nuclear planning drills, which includes scenario development and assigning personnel to various positions.
  • Coordinate advertisements and media placements as needed related to emergency communication.
  • Manage and Coordinate system-wide emergency customer and employee communications
  • Maintain, update and revise emergency communications plans
  • Provide central direction for all areas of the business on crisis and emergency communications
  • Stand up and improve emergency customer communications procedures, processes and execution.
  • Develop and execute training process and overview for system-wide crisis communications.
  • Provide communications council to executive leadership, including guidance on emergency communication strategy and tactics.
  • Plan and execute internal and external events related to emergency and nuclear communication including developing speeches and talking points, coordinating logistics, drafting news releases, etc.
  • Work closely with company’s Incident Support Teams and others on planning, narratives, responses and execution.
