But no one enjoys putting this stuff together...

The $30 Billion branded swag supply chain is a complete mess, filled with too many products, too many intermediaries, too little quality control, and not enough technology.

SwagUp is disrupting the industry by streamlining the end to end supply chain and making it available through a single platform utilizing powerful APIs and interfaces (e.g. dashboard). As the fastest growing swag company, we have made great strides towards our mission of eliminating the friction in the swag creation and distribution process. BUT we’ve just begun to scratch the surface…

MISSION:

The CTO leads all planning and execution related to technology strategy at SwagUp. Responsible for outlining the company's technological vision, implementing technology strategies, and ensuring technological resources are aligned with the company's business needs, he/she/they are integral in their ability to envision and drive the current and future technical trajectory of the company.

While operating well at an executive level, the CTO at SwagUp is a highly hands-on role. With proven experience in introducing new products and features, the CTO thrives while developing complex cross functional solutions. In addition to technical expertise and passion, our CTO demonstrates exceptional team leadership, loves to innovate, is customer obsessed, data focused, and comfortable advocating their plan and explaining business results in a way the entire organization can understand and find alignment with.

The Day-to-Day:

  • Designs and leads continuous delivery for a multi-year technical roadmap, balancing short and long-term goals and investments.
  • Manages and inspires software engineers to innovate, invent, implement, and deploy complex software solutions in a commercial, mission-critical environment.
  • Partners closely with Product Management to create, drive, and deliver innovative, compelling, and user-friendly products.
  • Develops and grows leadership talent through active mentoring, coaching, succession planning, and retention strategies for key talent in a growing, competitive economic environment.
  • Engineering vision and strategy - Responsible for working with multiple SVP and other VP level stakeholders in creating a clear, convincing technical strategy.
  • People Management and leadership – Manages engineering teams and inspires leaders to deliver key deliverables in an environment where everything seems important.
  • Ongoing technical reviews - Drive ongoing product and technology reviews in conjunction with product leaders and senior stakeholders and drive strategic technological discussions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to "find a way" or make one. Gets things done and is comfortable diving into the details to drive functional and operational excellence.

The Right Person for the job has:

  • Deep curiosity to uncover customer problems, have empathy and desire to solve them, and foster the same behavior within their team
  • Avoids “process” for process sake; keeps things as simple as possible
  • Respects the role their Product counterparts play and believe in the importance of pushing each other to be better
  • Believes that speed wins/Thinks in days, not months
  • Thinks in terms of “how can we” vs. defaulting to “we can’t”
  • Holds team to high standards and is not afraid to make personnel changes to maintain high standards and performance culture
  • Gives teams autonomy to operate in the areas they know best
  • Adept at assessing current technology ecosystem, identifying pain points, and creating a plan of execution to remedy what’s broken, while balancing against the need to deliver on enhancing and evolving our existing offering

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience in technology/engineering leadership with a demonstrated track record of technical innovation, presenting product vision and roadmaps, leading end-to-end product development, and leading software engineering teams
  • Experience developing high-growth Consumer-centric products and platforms
  • Experience with APIs and micro-services architecture
  • E-commerce and/or logistics/supply chain experience
  • Comfortable with product lifecycle testing - embraces a build, measure, learn approach
  • Experience evaluating both cloud and non-cloud infrastructure
  • Understands how the intersection of product, data, and customer experience drives value
  • An Engineering foundation by training or by heart; has the technical depth to quickly assess the effectiveness of system architectures and technology stack, development methodologies and tools to run an efficient software design and development organization.
  • As a leader, excites and inspires peak performance with unquestionable ethics and sound judgement; embraces a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, with pragmatism and bias for action
