Viral Pathogenesis Lead Scientist

About the Role

Culmen International is looking for a Viral Pathogenesis Lead Scientist to support a USAMRIID program at Fort Detrick, MD.

The Viral Pathogenesis Lead Scientist oversees research into viral agents of concern, guiding studies on pathogenesis, vaccine development, and countermeasure evaluation using animal and in vitro models.

What You’ll Do in Your New Role

• Lead and design experiments on viral replication and host response.
• Develop and validate animal models under BSL-2/3/4 containment.
• Mentor junior researchers and technicians.
• Analyze data, present findings, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• Coordinate with government and external collaborators.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in virology, microbiology, or related field.
• 6+ years in virology or infectious disease research.
• Expertise in viral molecular biology, immunology, and animal studies.
• Familiarity with BSL-4 protocols and select agent handling.
• Proficiency in assay development and interpretation.
• Strong scientific writing and leadership skills.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.

Desired Qualifications

• Ph.D. strongly preferred.
