The Custodian is responsible for performing custodial and sanitation work throughout TRS facilities. The incumbent will perform and/or coordinate the cleaning and sanitation of TRS buildings and facilities, and conduct inspections of buildings and equipment. This position will proactively work with the Business Administration staff, and agency employees.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Custodial and Sanitation (Day Porter)
  • Coordinates and performs general custodial and sanitation functions such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows, light fixtures, floors, carpets, entrance mats, entryways, doors, exterior ashtrays and urns, and general common areas.
  • Wipes and disinfects areas such as tables, chairs, microwaves, refrigerator handles, vending machines, door handles, elevators panels, and other high-touch areas, and empty trash receptacles, replace liners, and replenish hand towels in the cafeteria and break rooms.
  • Fills, runs and empties dishwashers as needed; puts dishes and silverware away in the breakrooms.
  • Replenishes supplies in and spot cleans all restrooms and shower facilities.
  • Manages the recycling and confidential shredding bins throughout the agency.
  • Spot treats any carpet stains and clean floors or spills.
  • Continuously inspects and monitors the remainder of buildings and facilities for cleanliness, completed work, and needed repairs.
Departmental Operations Support
  • Reports necessary repairs through the facilities request system and to property administrator.
  • Maintains inventory records of custodial and maintenance tools and equipment, and custodial materials and supplies. Restocks custodial supplies.
  • Coordinates expenses, repairs, maintenance, and other purchases with department purchasing and supply coordinator.
  • Monitors and coordinates property cleaning and maintenance projects.
  • Attends and participate in facilities team meetings as required.
  • Assists the Facilities department with setup for meetings or conferences.
Performs related work as assigned


WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Required Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • The completion of the 8th grade and additional full-time experience in cleaning and sanitation of buildings or facilities, or similarly related experience may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Experience:
  • Three (3) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in cleaning and sanitation of buildings or facilities, or similarly related experience.
Required Registration, Certification, Licensure:
  • None
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in custodial work in a commercial building.
  • Experience in managing supply inventories.
Knowledge of:
  • Cleaning and sanitation techniques and procedures.
  • Inventory control principles and methods.
Skill in:
  • Using a computer in a Windows environment.
  • Organizing and prioritizing work to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment and completing work accurately while meeting daily deadlines.
  • Providing quality customer service.
Ability to:
  • Understand work orders, directions, and chemicals usage instructions.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Perform custodial-related duties and operate related equipment.
  • Maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.
  • Work effectively in a professional team environment.
