The Security Officer is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety of the agency's facilities. The incumbent will conduct routine surveillance of facilities, grounds, parking areas, and property, maintain access control, and provide general security services to employees, members, and visitors. This position may require performance of duties and travel between the various TRS locations. This position will proactively work with the Security team and agency employees.
The Security Officer Senior is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety of the agency's facilities. The incumbent will conduct routine surveillance of facilities, grounds, parking areas, and property, maintain access control, provide general security services to employees, members, and visitors, and provide departmental support. This position may require performance of duties and travel between the various TRS locations. This position will proactively work with leadership, Security Operations and the Security team, and agency employees.
This vacancy will be filled at one of two levels - Security Officer or Security Officer Sr.. Selected applicant will be offered the position that most closely matches their education and experience.
Salary Range
Security Officer: $44,100 – $52,814
Security Officer Sr: $46,305 – $55,455
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Security Officer or Security Officer Sr.
Surveillance
- Monitors agency facilities, grounds, and parking areas utilizing a computerized security monitoring system of more than 200 security cameras.
- Monitors, operates, and responds to computerized alarm systems.
- Monitors movements and actions of service, trade, custodial, and other personnel after normal working hours utilizing computerized security monitoring systems.
- Performs routine motorized security cart and/or foot patrols of agency facilities, buildings, grounds, surface lots, and parking garages.
- Observes and notifies appropriate personnel of safety hazards, damaged or faulty equipment, and other unusual occurrences. Creates service tickets as necessary.
Access Control
- Programs, creates and/or issues agency access/identification cards and badges for staff, contractors and visitors to provide entry into designated areas.
- Monitors access card usage and control devices utilizing computerized security monitoring system and investigates any suspicious activity and/or unsecured areas.
- Prevents unauthorized personnel from entering facilities.
- Maintains accurate key inventory, including detailed record of keys issued and keys returned.
- Escorts employees and visitors to and from parking areas and throughout facilities during non-business hours and/or as necessary.
- Maintains records of parking assignments, including communicating with staff and modifying parking assignments as necessary.
- Monitors parking, issues citations, and communicates with staff and managers regarding parking violations.
- Completes daily reports and other special reports as required.
- Accepts agency related deliveries during non-business hours.
Security
- Provides general security services for employees, members, visitors, and agency facilities, grounds, and property.
- Protects agency facilities, grounds, and property against theft, fire, and vandalism.
- Provides prompt response to emergencies and other security related situations throughout agency facilities, grounds, and parking areas.
- Promptly notifies appropriate emergency services as necessary.
- Assists with responsibility for operations of the Security Control Room.
- Corrects minor safety and mechanical hazards when possible.
- Ensures compliance with energy conservation practices during nonbusiness hours.
- Provides other security related agency support as necessary.
Performs related work as assigned
Security Officer Sr.
Departmental Support
- Assists with scheduling adequate security coverage.
- Provides feedback to Security Manager regarding performance of security officers.
- Assists with evaluating and providing recommendations on security policies and procedures.
- Assists Management in training new security officers in procedures.
- Assists Management in maintaining various libraries in SharePoint sites.
- Assists in addressing EasyVista ticketing system.
- Assists with training and monitoring of security officers on all shifts.
- May serve as departmental Safety Coordinator.
Performs related work as assigned
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Required Education:
Security Officer or Security Officer Sr.
- High school diploma or GED
Required Experience:
Security Officer
- Three (3) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in monitoring and ensuring the safety of an agency's facilities or similarly related experience.
- A bachelor's degree in a directly related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Security Officer Sr.
- Five (5) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in monitoring and ensuring the safety of an agency's facilities or similarly related experience.
- One (1) year of of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience with computerized security and alarm systems or similarly related experience.
- Experience may be concurrent.
- A bachelor's degree in a directly related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Registration, Certification, Licensure:
Security Officer or Security Officer Sr.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Security Officer
- Valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Relevant prior military, law enforcement and/or corrections experience.
- Experience with computerized security and alarm systems.
- Experience with DNA Fusion Access Control and Security Management System software.
- Experience with Salient Surveillance software.
- Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Fluent in functional English and Spanish.
Security Officer Sr.
- Two (2) years (60 semester hours) of relevant college course work.
- Experience with DNA Fusion Access Control and Security Management System software.
- Experience with Salient Surveillance software and other emergent technologies.
- Experience coordinating schedules and working in a business office environment.
- Experience reviewing security access levels and providing building access.
- Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Ability to adapt to changing work environments at different locations.
- Experience with emerging security software technologies.
Knowledge of:
- Security and surveillance best practices, computerized security and alarm systems, and customer service principles and practices.
Skill in:
- Using a computer in a Windows environment with word processing and other business related software.
- Effective verbal communication, including telephone communication and active listening.
- Effective written communication, including writing clear, concise, and legible reports.
- Providing quality customer service.
- Utilizing a mobile device in daily routine for current and emerging technologies.
Ability to:
