Job Summary:

The mission of the Global Event Manager is to create, plan, and execute phenomenal event experiences that engage attendees, and meet our marketing and broader business objectives.   

As a key member of the Global Events Team (GET) within the Marketing organization at D2L, you will be responsible for the planning and tactical execution of various 3rd party sponsored and D2L proprietary events. You will create and manage memorable event experiences that engage our clients, prospective clients, and staff alike. 

How you will make an impact: 

  • Manage event experiences from concept through completion – event planning and preparations, management of on-site logistics and production as well as post-event reporting and follow-up - ensuring high-level service throughout. This includes: 
    • Providing direction and coordinating with various departments across the organization, as well as external clients, vendors, and others to establish needs for events throughout all the phases.
    • Leading cross-functional coordination of tasks and the development of materials, assets, and messaging.
    • Managing event technical, production, and event logistical elements, liaising and preparing speakers, sponsors, vendors, and event staff.
    • Managing cross-functional workstreams, timelines, actions, tasks, dependencies, and event budgets.
    • Troubleshooting issues, managing risk mitigation, and identify opportunities and new ideas.   
    • Coordinating the development of materials, assets, messaging, and managing event technical, production, and event logistical elements, liaising and preparing speakers, sponsors, vendors, and event staff.
  • Maintain event calendar and communicate event and report event activities, goals, and results to key stakeholders.
  • Monitor event experiences and related plans to identify opportunities to optimize and improve.
  • Work in close partnership with integrated marketing and sales leads to create and execute event strategy that supports key verticals and overall sales and marketing goals.  
  • Nurture and build strong relationships with internal teams, external vendors, venues, and other industry contacts.
  • Stay current and ahead of the curve on the key industry events to sponsor, as well as event planning, outreach, design and experience trends, with an eye towards continuous improvement, and sharing insights and learnings across the team.

What you’ll bring to the role and what we expect: 

  • Proficient event manager with 5+ years proven experience and success managing and owning end-to-end planning and execution of in-person events. 
  • Proven experience leading and managing cross-functional projects and programs
  • Advanced organization, time management, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and managing not only your own priorities in parallel, but also managing cross-functional alignment and workstreams and tasks with others to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Resourceful and adaptable to change, with the ability to think quickly under pressure.
  • Great leadership qualities with the ability to delegate and clearly communicate responsibility to others to meet expectations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail as there will be an element of administration duties, data entry, and contract, venue and technical reviews.
  • Knowledge of event management techniques and KPIs.
  • A self-motivated and outgoing individual with the ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Creative mindset and stamina to try new things and figure out how to continuously improve.
  • Experience in building enriching working relationships and managing external vendor relationships, both in-person and remotely.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and proficiency with Event Management, Marketing, CRM, and Project management systems and tools would be an asset. 
  • Flexibility to work even at irregular hours and to travel both domestic and internationally, as needed.

The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.

Base Salary Range
$74,200$80,000 CAD
