About Us

Leap’s mission is to combat climate change by enabling a reliable electric grid that runs on clean energy. We play a crucial role in opening up wholesale energy markets to all distributed energy resources, enabling our partners to get paid for providing flexibility to the grid.

At Leap, we believe in cross-functional collaboration, creative thinking to solve complex problems, and job enrichment. We are a mission-driven organization. Not only will your impact be felt within the day-to-day operations; together, we have the ability to make the world more sustainable and greener.

Leap is a privately held tech company with funding from top VCs and well-known energy entrepreneurs. Our core operations are in the San Francisco Bay Area and Utrecht (NL), but we are a distributed workplace with teammates based in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Boulder, New York City, Washington, DC, and beyond. This role is 100% remote from anywhere in North America.

If you have more experience than is reflected here, that’s great! We’ll be pleased to exercise your broader/deeper skill set. We value inclusion and welcome diverse viewpoints.

Who are we looking for?

We’re seeking a driven and detail-oriented individual who will be responsible for executing on and improving Leap’s operations in wholesale electricity markets, particularly from a technical, data-driven perspective.

This role will drive our day-to-day asset enrollment operations and is best suited for someone who has an eye for detail and building processes. As you become an expert in this role, there will be opportunities to build technical skills by automating as much of the process as you can. Additionally, there will be opportunities for strategic thinking by working with our product team to build the enrollment process into Leap’s platform and by expanding the enrollment process to new programs and markets.

This role could be a good fit if you:

Must:

  • Are interested in building complex processes, continuously improving operations, and learning and implementing optimization strategies
  • Are detail-oriented and appreciate cross-referencing your work for accuracy
  • 6+ months exposure to object-oriented programming language such as Python, R or Matlab, and an interest in growing your technical skills in Python
  • Are willing to take ownership of regular reporting processes
  • Are hands-on and like to tackle and improve complex work processes
  • Are excited to work collaboratively in a team alongside a diverse group of amazingly talented and fun people, and at the same time are capable of driving work forward independently
  • Can prioritize, juggle and execute tasks to work in a fast-paced startup environment

Plus:

  • Have relevant coursework and/or professional experience in data management, analysis, scripting, and visualizations
  • 6+ months exposure to SQL, and an interest in growing your technical skills in SQL
  • Have experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency or energy trading

In this role you will:

  • Support the implementation of strategies and core processes required for participation across existing & new Leap programs in New York (NYISO), Texas (ERCOT), California (CAISO), New England (ISO-NE), and other target Leap markets
  • Manage day-to-day enrollment operations, such as submitting data authorizations forms, registering meters in grid operator platforms, and following up with utilities about enrollment data
  • Analyze energy market data in order to help evolve Leap’s market participation strategies.
  • Build out scalable enrollment processes to enable our portfolio to grow to 100,000+ devices.
  • Analyze and validate energy data for Leap’s platform & technology partners
  • Jump on opportunities to automate tasks using Python, SQL and internal tooling
  • Collaborate with Leap’s Product and Engineering teams to give feedback on new enrollment features for our partners
  • Drive documentation efforts across the team for key processes and ongoing improvements

What’s it like to work at Leap?

Product: At our core we are a tech company. We love technical challenges and build things that we are proud of and would like to use ourselves. Everyone is highly involved in building and designing our products, making them extremely valuable and a pleasure to use.

Purpose: Some of us worked in energy before, some of us haven’t. All of us would like to make a difference and do our part in helping the world move towards a more resilient grid run on renewable energy.

Fun: We work hard, but enjoy our time at work as well as outside of work. With the team spread out over multiple time zones we also embraced flexibility early on, and are focused on results instead of time spent in the office.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.

You’ll also have some time to ask questions.

Background check: We’ll ask to speak with two to three people who can speak to your work.

Our decision: If you’re selected, we’ll make an offer and open the avenues for communication with our team members to support you in making your decision. If you’re not selected in the current round, we promise to give you some context as to why not, if you’d find that useful. Keep in mind that we’re growing, and we expect there to be many future opportunities!

Note that our clients are mostly US-based, and so we look for the ability to communicate with clarity in English, verbally and in writing.
