Data Engineer

Our mission at BridgeU is to help students find a university and course that best matches their preferences and potential, giving them the tools to explore tertiary education opportunities all over the world. In order to fulfil this mission we handle a vast amount of data, from the universities, third party providers, and schools. As we grow and scale, so do our analytics needs.

Our data team is core to the company. We are responsible for collecting information from universities, making sure it is accurate and complete, transforming and loading it through the data pipeline into our product and, combined with our recommendation engine, provide students with insights into their prospects. We are also involved in helping the business understand our current student engagement data and draw insights that inform product development and the company strategy.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to complement our team composed of data scientists, data engineers, and data collectors. You'll be responsible for maintaining and expanding our data pipeline and data warehouse, coming up with innovative and efficient ways to collect, store, and move data across different platforms, and ensuring quality of the data we provide to customers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data from multiple external sources
  • Build and maintain infrastructure around new and existing data services on Google Cloud and AWS
  • Build or research tools to improve data collection, processing, and analytics across the business
  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams
  • Ensure data quality and integrity, as well as maintain a high level of awareness about data and application security
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a previous role as a Data Engineer
  • Fluency in Python and data manipulation using pandas
  • Experience in building ETL pipelines with Apache Beam
  • Experience in running data pipelines and deploying applications on GCP
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and technologies
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB
  • Experience with API development
  • Excellent communication skills and appreciation for writing good technical documentation
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or similar field
It’s a plus if you have:
  • Familiarity with compute and storage services in AWS
  • Experience using BI tools like Looker and Amplitude
  • Experience with Fivetran and/or dbt
  • Familiarity with regular expressions, entity extraction and tokenization
  • Experience with building recommendation systems
