Data Strategy Lead

We are looking for a Data Strategy Lead who is curious, agile and dynamic to join us in our Statistical Sciences and Innovation (SSI) team, based in any of our affiliates including the UK, Germany, Belgium and Raleigh (US).


About the role

You play a pivotal role in developing and implementing the data strategy, data curation/ontology and data cataloguing to support data use across the R&D organisation at UCB. You will be responsible for building frameworks in order to maximise the value from re-use of clinical trial data and support the data strategy at UCB for both operational and scientific questions to support internal stakeholders.


Who you’ll work with

This role reports to the Head of Statistical programming and works closely with key business groups such as the Data Office and IT teams.


What you’ll do

  • Lead the implementation of the data enablement strategy and data curation within SSI, partnering with the Data Office to develop and execute the departmental strategy
  • Create structure, tools and guidelines for the implementation of the Data Strategy with Data Curation and Ontologies, ensuring that the guidelines are adopted and enforced
  • Develop, implement, and maintain data cataloging
  • Work pro-actively with the Data Office team to identify opportunities to automate aspects of data curation using the ontologies and creating models to automatically assign ontology terms to data points
  • Help to shape and implement the change management process for curating data
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the Statistical Programming team into the support of data strategy to the UCB stakeholders
  • Be point of contact internally and with other departments at UCB for align the Data Strategy with Company goals
  • Maintain the Data Curation Strategy to ensure that the curation of data will be effective
  • Provides proactive and effective collaboration for statistical programming initiatives.
  • Proactively supports the development of Statistical Programming Vision at UCB.
  • Works within a global team respectful of multiple cultures and countries.
  • Effectively communicate, present ideas well online, read the virtual room, and connect with others virtually.


Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following
education, experience and skills

  • MSc or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a similar analytical field
  • Proven track record in managing, developing and deriving value from data curation and ontologies or taxonomies in a complex and fragmented data environment
  • Experience within a pharmaceutical company, biotechnology or Clinical research organisation
  • Experience with Collibra and FAIR data principles
  • Excellent in written and spoken English
  • Preferred experience in data governance frameworks and implementation within complex environments
