Database Administration Specialist

Marsh McLennan (MMC) Database Services are growing at fast pace and currently have an opportunity for a creative and inquisitive Database Administrator (Informix/DB2). This role is hybrid.

• We are a large team who together, across the AUS, UK, Canada, Mexico & US, are responsible for significant databases & projects related to our Informix/DB2 environment.
• We are offering an emerging and varied role, with a stimulating range of duties and responsibilities, designing strategies for our Enterprise Database Systems and setting standards for operations, programming, and security, using ETL architecture standards.
• We are moving to an automation first approach, so welcome your entrepreneurial, inquisitive nature, to research & present new, replacement tech that will contribute to defining, maintaining, and strengthening the database strategy, service offerings and support of this critical department.
• Our Database Services team are Global, this role could be based remotely, out of any of our US office locations, with a degree of remote working also available.

What you need to have:

• Informix/DB2 Experience & Skills
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Informix 4GL administration
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Informix Structured Query Language (SQL)
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Relational databases and table design / creation
• Minimum 5 years of experience with managing Informix Instances / Databases / dbSpace
• Installation and configuration of Informix 4GL software / packages on Sun Solaris OS
• Experience with Upgrading / Migrating Informix version 14.x to higher versions
• Backup and Recovery of Informix server – Hands on experience of logical and physical using Onbar /dbexport / dbImport utility
• Experience with Informix Inherit (native) Encryption
• Minimum 5 years of DB2 Database Performance and Tuning, and security.
• Minimum 5 years of recent production database administration of db2 v11 databases.

• Schedule and perform Informix/DB2 Database backups and restores.
• Provide Informix/DB2 database Operational Maintenance support
• Patch and Upgrade Informix/DB2 Databases.
• Data Structure Maintenance
• Data fixes
• Provides support as part of a team working 24/7 to support global users.
• Modifies database structures using database administration tools and programming as needed.
• Accountable for trouble shooting database issues to keep existing databases running efficiently.
• Plans and executes strategic database activities including installation, configuration and upgrading of
• Controls and monitors user access to the database.
• Monitors database usage and optimizes database performance.

What makes you stand out:

• DB2 Database Administration Certification on V11 or higher is preferred.
• Experience of DB2 database patching, upgrade and security
• Experience of performing Informix Database upgrades on Sun Solaris OS.
• Experience of performing DB2 upgrades on AIX.
• Experience writing DB2 stored procedures, triggers, cursors, and views
• Sun / Solaris and AIX experience
• Experience with creating UNIX/Linux and AIX shell scripts
• Experience with Agile teams and development methods
• Automation of DBA work processes
• Familiar with Oracle, or MSSQL Server or Sybase will be a plus
