Catholic Charities is the social ministry outreach of the Archdiocese of Washington and assists individuals and families in need, especially those who are most vulnerable. We collaborate with Community partners for resources and other community assets to offer programs that are effective and fiscally sound. The Volunteer Medical Clinic is part of Healthcare Services of Catholic Charities and provides primary health care services utilizing a team of about 100 volunteers which allows us to not charge patients for visits. Our patient population is composed of uninsured and low-income adults living in Maryland, primarily undocumented immigrants. Our volunteers serve as clinicians, specialty doctors in connection with our healthcare network. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.
Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA will build the capacity of the agency’s Volunteer Medical Clinic (VMC) by coordinating a team of volunteers to provide free medical appointments and preventative care to low-income clients and families. The VISTA will also work towards sustaining the volunteer coordination of the VMC by developing programs and systems that will help maintain the volunteer program following the VISTA year. The VISTA will expand clinic operations by coordinating the recruiting, training, and scheduling of the volunteer team, and collaborating with the Quality Improvement team to assess and implement procedures to improve patient and volunteer satisfaction, track patient outcomes, and establish electronic systems that will streamline volunteer coordination in the future. These efforts will help alleviate poverty and enhance the agency's ability to serve patients and families.
