Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for Development Officers for multiple areas, including but not limited to the College of Engineering, Honors College/Graduate Studies, College of Science, College of Agriculture and School of Social Work. These positions secure private support for funding priorities within the College/School/Area in consultation and collaboration with the Associate Vice President and the Dean or administrator in charge. This posting is for current and future full-time professional positions with a full comprehensive benefits package.
Associate Director, Development
The Associate Director, Development (ADOD), is a mid-level development professional with knowledge of most aspects of fundraising, moderate fundraising experience. The main function of the position(s) is to solicit major gifts (defined as $10,000 and above) payable over five years in support of University of Nevada, Reno (University) college/school/unit/programs and/or projects including, but not limited to, scholarship(s), programs, projects (capital annual and others), endowments, planned gifts, and expendable funds.
Director, Development
The Director of Development (DOD) is a high-level development professional with knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, substantial fundraising experience. The Director will secure private support for funding priorities within the College/School/Area in consultation and collaboration with the AVP and the Dean. The position will actively manage a defined portfolio of major gift prospects and donors by guiding their cultivation, solicitation and stewardship while also growing the base of major gift support through establishment of new relationships. The director will build strong and mutually beneficial relationships between donors, friends, alumni, businesses and the community with academic leadership, faculty, and staff. The director is responsible for developing a comprehensive fundraising plan to support the college/school/area funding priorities with a primary focus on gift solicitation at the major gift level of $10,000 and above.

Senior Director, Development
The Senior Development Officer (SDO) is a senior-level development professional with substantial knowledge of all aspects of fundraising and substantial fundraising experience. The SDO is capable of working independently to reach all metrics and monetary goals as well as to be a mentor to other DODs/ADODs/ASDODs. The main function of the position(s) is to solicit principal gifts (defined as $100,000 and above) payable over five years in support of University of Nevada, Reno college/school/unit/programs and/or projects including, but not limited to, scholarship(s), programs, projects (capital annual and others), endowments, planned gifts, expendable funds, and professorships/chairs. The degree of autonomy and level of gifts expected for successful performance is based on established metrics and the level of autonomy is high.
Required Qualifications for each level
**Candidates will be hired at the level that is comparable to their experience, knowledge, skills and abilities
Associate Director Level
Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of related professional work experience; OR a Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience.
Related Experience: Fundraising or similar experience
Director Level
Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience; OR a Master’s Degree and (2) two years of related professional work experience.
Related Experience: Successful professional experience is required, preferably in higher education fundraising, non-profit or in a related field which requires strong relationship-building and outcome driven components.
Senior Director Level
Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of related professional work experience; OR a Master’s Degree and (3) three years of related professional work experience.
Related Experience:
  • Substantial fundraising experience which includes demonstrable experience with individuals in either a higher education, athletic development operation, sales team, or other profession that required the candidate to uncover prospects, make outreach, and meet face-to-face to cultivate and solicit prospects.
  • Experience with fundraising databases, contact reports, proposal preparation and moves management.
  • Experience with a metric-driven, results-oriented environment.
  • Experience with face to face solicitations of $100k or higher
Schedule or Travel Requirements:
  • Frequent local travel
  • Possible occasional out of state travel
  • Variable work schedule to include nights and weekends

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner.
