DevOps Engineer

Position Description:

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for the company’s internal and customer-facing applications and works closely with Software Development and Information Technology to provision, configure, maintain, and monitor systems and applications. Frequently the DevOps Engineer will be asked to provision and manage infrastructure, including containers. The DevOps Engineer is responsible for establishing and maintaining build and release tools and processes using Azure DevOps Release Management, Jenkins, PowerShell, and Bash. The DevOps Engineer shares responsibility for the availability of applications and services. The DevOps Engineer has a strong working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, web administration, disaster recovery, as well as performance and health monitoring tools. The DevOps Engineer is able to troubleshoot issues involving DNS, TLS\SSL, and NAT.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with infrastructure, application, and service architects on making the Vistex GTMS solution viable for multiple deployment scenarios
  • Work closely with Software Development and Information Technology on
  • system provisioning and configuration
  • orchestrating containers using Kubernetes
  • ongoing release and deployment of applications and services
  • production application reliability and performance
  • Provision and configure infrastructure using CLI and tools such as Ansible
  • Establish and maintain release pipelines and processes using Azure DevOps Release Management, Jenkins, PowerShell, and Bash
  • Provide disaster recovery related database administration including backup and restore; database engines include MongoDB and PostgreSQL
  • Maintain performance and health monitoring tools such as Google Cloud Monitor, Azure Application Insights, AppOptics, and Pingdom
  • Develop task automation scripts using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python
  • Maintain system and support procedure documentation
  • Act as a technical advisor to peers and personnel from other departments

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical college degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Applicable industry certifications a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years in a DevOps Engineering, Software Development, or Information Technology role; System Administrators need not apply
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a medium to large web development and hosting environment
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in database administration
  • Demonstrated skills using Linux operating systems
  • Experience with source control repositories such as Git (Preferred), TFSVC, or SVN
  • Experience with Domains, DNS, NAT and TLS\SSL
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure providers such as Google Cloud Platform, Azure, and AWS
  • Experience with single sign-on including SAML and OAuth
  • Experience with production change control and release processes
  • Basic understanding of server provisioning automation via tools such Terraform
  • Basic understanding of server maintenance and health
  • Basic understanding of networking engineering concepts
  • Excellent time and priority management abilities
  • Very strong problem solving/analytical abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written and listening, across several disciplines and organizational levels
  • Sound technical to business understanding
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision

Essential Job Skills

  • DevOps Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Able to thrive in a small business atmosphere
  • Ability to participate across various teams, cultures, geographies and time zones
  • Able to work outside of normal business hours without prior notice in case of very high priority issue

Experience

Required
  • 2 - 5 years: Experience with Domains, DNS, NAT and TLS\SSL
  • 3 - 4 years: 3 years of relevant experience in database administration
  • 5 - 6 years: Minimum of 5 years working in a medium to large web development and hosting environment
