Principal Equipment Engineer

Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are the rare unicorn that has grown fast and profitably. We received $515m in funding and are executing a multi-$B expansion plan for one of the greenest forms of tech manufacturing: converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on engineer with a strong background in semiconductor equipment design to lead the development of automation systems for the handling, processing, and characterizing of semiconductor-grade diamonds in our foundry. This role will focus on the design and integration of cutting-edge semiconductor equipment, robotics, motion control systems, and computer vision technologies for highly precise operations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in semiconductor manufacturing equipment design and build, with a solid foundation in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of semiconductor-grade equipment for handling, processing, and characterizing diamond wafer products.
  • Design and integrate high-precision semiconductor equipment, including robotic material-handling systems and motion control units, for cleanroom environments and micron-level precision.
  • Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams to design and integrate complex semiconductor equipment components and automation systems into production lines.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and process engineers to develop and implement automation solutions that enhance system efficiency, throughput, and reliability.
  • Generate clear, detailed documentation of equipment designs, integration processes, and troubleshooting procedures.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical, Mechanical, Semiconductor, Robotics Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years experience in equipment design.
  • In-depth experience with semiconductor fabrication processes (e.g., wafer handling, deposition, etching) and equipment used in high-precision manufacturing environments.
  • Expertise in 3D/2D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks), EDA/ECAD tools (e.g., KiCAD, DipTrace), and Python.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and conducting micron-level tolerance analysis for semiconductor equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques (e.g., machining, soldering, electro-mechanical assembly) relevant to semiconductor equipment.

$135,000 - $170,000 a year
This position is eligible for company shares. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s job duties, experience, and expertise. We will also consider higher-level candidates and salary will be adjusted accordingly.
