Job Description Summary
WXPN, the public media organization from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, is looking for a Digital Content Manager. The Digital Content Manager will be responsible for overseeing all digital properties, including the station's website and social media channels, with the primary goal of distributing the station’s original programming and editorial content to new and existing audiences and effectively promoting the organization's brand. This role involves collaborating with the programming and marketing teams to create and maintain up-to-date and strategically aligned digital content.
The Digital Content Manager will lead a team, develop and manage workflows, and actively participate in content production. The Digital Content Manager will play a vital role in driving the station's digital presence and achieving strategic goals through engaging and relevant content. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a team, collaborate with various departments, and make a significant impact on the station's digital strategy and success.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Content Creation and Management:
  • Oversee the creation and curation of compelling digital content, including articles, videos, graphics, and other multimedia formats, to engage and expand the audience.
  • Ensure all content is optimized for search engines (SEO) and follows industry standards for accessibility and user experience.
  • Review and edit content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency before publication.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar to plan, schedule, and coordinate content releases.
  • Actively participate in content production, leveraging skills in writing, editing, graphic design, video editing, or other relevant areas.
  • Ensure the production of high-quality, engaging content that meets brand standards and resonates with the target audience.
  • Stay up to date with emerging digital technologies and platforms, exploring opportunities for expansion and innovation
Strategic Planning and Execution:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital content strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and target audience.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and programming teams to ensure digital content is consistent, engaging, and aligned with brand messaging.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Supervise a team of content creators, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and creative work environment, encouraging idea sharing and professional development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as marketing, programming, design, and technical teams, to ensure cohesive and integrated digital content strategies.
Workflow Development and Optimization:
  • Develop efficient and effective workflows for content creation, review, and approval processes.
  • Implement tools and technologies to streamline content production, distribution, and performance tracking.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of digital content initiatives and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned:
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience) required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in digital content management, preferably in a media, entertainment, or broadcasting industry required. With at least 3 years of demonstrated successful staff supervision experience required.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing principles, including SEO, social media strategies, and content distribution.
  • Proficient in content management systems (CMS), analytics tools, and social media management platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and editorial capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Creative mindset with a passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of audience engagement.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
