Director Agribusiness U.S. Canada

Ingredion is hiring a Director Agribusiness, US/Canada to lead a sales team in the development of strategies and go-to-market approaches to optimize $550 million in agri-product sales and achieve coproduct recovery targets while minimizing volatility in earnings and achieving net corn cost targets.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Sales – Establish price strategies for corn gluten feed, corn gluten meal and corn oil across the US/Canada region. Clearly communicate corporate business goals to US/Canada sales team and other stakeholders. Provide sales leadership in developing regional and national strategies that will meet or exceed corporate profitability targets and minimize net corn volatility. Provide direction to regional sales team that focus on minimizing working capital impacts, optimize distribution channels, assure consistent volume take away and competitive net corn costs.
  • Volatility Reduction – Continue to develop business and risk management approaches that provide both targeted returns and allow for effective hedging. Collaborate with Risk Management and Middle Office teams to ensure accurate and effective position management
  • Planning - Develop US/Canada annual sales plan and in collaboration with Finance provide LE adjustments as required. Present market updates and trends in the agriculture sector that could impact net corn costs to the US/Canada Commodity Committee and various executive teams.
  • Relationships: Build and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external customers that will help facilitate effective communication of customer and business needs. This shall include active participate with various trade organizations in both US and Canada including the National Grain and Feed Association.
  • Strategic Marketing – Partner with Operations and Quality leadership to drive Agribusiness valorization via process and capital improvements to increase yields and improve product quality and distribution. Provide commercial leadership in developing a diverse, segmented customer base and new market applications for our agriculturally based ingredients. Continue to build an external distribution network that will provide a balance between direct sales customers and re-sellers. Interface with Universities and government agencies researching new technology and opportunities for new product development.
  • People Development and Management – Ensure an appropriate organizational structure is in place to meet business objectives. Continue to develop the team’s sales and leadership skills via Ingredion’s internal and external partner programs and build viable succession plans to ensure business continuity. Understand the career ambitions of team members and enable the creation of meaningful development plans. Provide appropriately challenging tasks and assignments for team members to fully leverage their potential. Develop and manage SG&A budgets for US/Canada Agribusiness. Develop and manage alliances if justified to optimize sales efficiencies and profitability.
  • Continuous improvement – Utilize Continuous Improvement and Office of Transformation resources to ensure consistent, effective and efficient capabilities to transact the order to cash process for Agribusiness products across the US/Canada network. Develop and implement reporting improvements to benchmark against internal and external KPI’s.
  • Trade Activities – Represent Ingredion at industry meetings, trade shows and conferences. Stay abreast of developments within the Corn Wet Milling industry, biofuel industry, and CRA that could have an impact on the value of corn-based ingredients. Maintain a working knowledge of trade rules and regulations.
  • Administration and Governance – Ensure compliance with Ingredion policies and procedures. With Legal support complete periodic reviews of sales terms and conditions to ensure compliance with Accounting and Internal Audit standards and manage risk and exposure.
Qualified candidates will have:
  • Bachelor of Science degree with extensive years of related work experience in Commodity Merchandising and the associated risk management and supply chain activities
  • 10+ years of grain or oil seed industry experience preferred
  • Experience working with a diverse customer base including large CPG customers
  • Ability to effectively manage people with diverse cultural backgrounds and interface across functional groups
  • Successfully developed and implemented grain or feed product merchandising strategies that incorporate company objectives with a proven ability to revise and modify strategies to meet changing market conditions
  • Ability to lead, develop and execute negotiation strategies
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the U.S./Canadian and international grain and feed industry
  • Agile and collaborative team player
  • Demonstrated strong analytical capability including the ability to analyze commodity (grain, feed, transportation) data and formulate conclusions regarding its impact on performance
  • Strong communication and presentation skills including the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
