Job Title
Director, AI Strategy
Reporting to the Vice President of Analytics and Metrics and working with the Mastercard AI Services team, the Director is responsible for driving business impact through analytics and data science, working closely the data scientist, ML engineers, and business functional leaders across Mastercard. This role is responsible for ensuring value creation from data science projects by (a) developing long term strategies to build AI solutions that maximize business value, (b) enabling rapid and iterative execution of AI projects, and (c) augmenting our innovative AI operating model by creating processes, establishing standards, and contributing thought leadership.

The Role

1/ Developing AI-driven strategies to support business value
  • Identifying opportunities for impactful AI, analytics, and automation within the business
  • Quantifying full value-at-stake from AI solutions, incorporating all possible value levers, and detailing the critical dependencies to capture full value
  • Bringing together expertise in AI, data engineering, solution architecture, and relevant business domains to design fit-to-purpose AI solutions to business problems
  • Translating ambitious north star visions into executable plans, building alignment among relevant executives and business stakeholders on timing and delivery
  • Achieving maximum scale from AI solutions by proactively identifying and addressing barriers to scale and generalizing solutions to multiple applications

2/ Enabling rapid and iterative delivery of AI solutions with consistent value creation
  • Partnering with AI and ML engineering leaders to manage versioning, iteration planning, and solution delivery, creating transparency for business stakeholders and proactively mitigating delivery issues
  • Building productive relationships with key business stakeholders to help them co-own the AI solutions, enabling the business to provide feedback and guidance all stages of development
  • Bringing business expertise and focus on value capture to AI problem-solving during development, helping the team to maximize impact and minimize unnecessary complexity
  • Augmenting our business stakeholders’ teams with AI and change management expertise, helping them to realize maximum value from AI solutions

3/ Advancing our innovative operating model for AI teams
  • Leading in interactions with AI and ML engineering teams to develop and codify more effective ways to AI and strategy teams to collaborate
  • Documenting knowledge, creating templates, and authoring playbooks to help the team scale
  • Conducting peer training and authoring thought leadership along with other members of the team to augment the full team’s skills
  • Developing new delivery frameworks and helping the team build new service offerings

All about you

  • 7+ years of experience using data to answer complex business questions and develop
practical solutions.
  • Proven track record of influencing cross-functional teams to deliver measurable business impact
  • Experience leading the creation and execution of technology strategies, preferably in the AI, analytics, BI, or automation domains
  • Strong communication, executive presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Familiarity with large data sets, statistical analyses, machine learning models, and data visualization
  • Intuitive knowledge of core data science concepts, including solution types, trade offs, complexity and scale constraints, and model evaluation frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and business intelligence tools preferred
  • Hands-on experience with an analytical scripting language such as Python or R preferred
  • Experience leading quantitative problem-solving with business and analytics stakeholders
  • Understanding of world leading Agile and technology business management practices
  • Demonstrated ability to balance the delivery of projects against the realities of a budget; and problem solving, project management and creative resourcefulness
  • Experience in the payments domain preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or physical sciences, or equivalent work or education-related experience. Master’s or other advanced degree strongly preferred

NYC Salary Range: $151,000 - $234,000
