The Role: Director, Compliance Product Advisory  

In this role, you are the ultimate player-coach generalist, who is passionate about crypto and compliance, and who will lead a team of talented Compliance advisors. You will serve as the primary Compliance contact for the teams working on Marketplace (including our exchange, BITRIA and ActiveTrader) and Crypto Core (including wallet, custody, new tokens and blockchains) products. You will partner with our engineering and product teams to bring products to market safely and responsibly, by providing strategic, risk-weighted Compliance advice. You’ll work closely with Compliance and Legal teams to design creative solutions and implement controls to ensure that our products comply with legal and regulatory obligations. Gemini is a technology company that operates within the financial services industry, and you will be the bridge that connects both worlds. The right person for this role will thrive at the intersection of an emerging digital asset class and traditional financial services, will be comfortable developing new solutions without the benefit of precedent, and will support responsible innovation by moving with urgency and focus.

Responsibilities:

• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate business, regulatory, and compliance risks.
• Build positive and influential relationships with Product, Engineering, and Business Development leadership and cross-functional teams, evangelizing the Compliance team’s expertise and services across the company.
• Scale and lead a diverse team of Compliance product professionals with an eye toward creative solutions and scalability.
• Collaborate with and support the Chief Compliance Officer and the rest of the Compliance team in evaluating and communicating compliance and regulatory risks to internal stakeholders as well as external parties.
• Contribute to a strong culture of compliance across Gemini.

Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience advising business stakeholders and solving novel and complex Compliance issues in a principled and innovative way.  
• Prior experience working in fintech, digital assets or high-growth tech companies.
• Knowledge of applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act/USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC sanctions programs and state money transmission laws. 
• Ability to quickly identify and understand complex problems, and to build internal consensus toward mitigation.
• Experience evaluating emerging products for compliance risk, working with product and business colleagues to implement creative solutions to tough compliance requirements, and conducting compliance reviews of new products and marketing materials
• Ability to effectively communicate across multiple lines of business and senior management.
• Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of and interest in disruptive technology, cryptocurrency, or blockchain technology.
• Comfort with ambiguity.
• Track record of creative problem-solving, excellent written and oral communication skills, and creation of strong and trusted cross-functional relationships.
