Waymo Operations exists to deliver the Waymo Driver to the world. We are a global team building and scaling the world's first and leading autonomous fleet and operations platform. In this role, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end Fleet Operations functions including TaaS, trucking, fleet enablement, fleet vendor relationship and program management workstreams
  • Set the vision for the Fleet Operations function, including clear expectations on behavior and performance
  • Lead, manage, and coach the Fleet Operations team to identify and develop top talent within the team, and provide opportunities for growth & development.
  • Attracts top talent by promoting the company's strong culture and values, competitive compensation and benefits, and opportunities for growth and development.
  • Own Fleet Operations strategic program results (delivery and value), act as a visible sponsor and champion for the organization’s transformation through prioritization of initiatives that drive successful scaled technical operations
  • Define requirements and partner with Engineering and Product Enablement teams to ensure vehicles, hardware and tooling are designed for serviceability and cost efficient operations.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Hardware and Vehicle teams to provide transparency and traceability of supplier and design impacts to overall Fleet health and operating costs.
  • Develop long-term vendor partner strategy across all Fleet Operation activities and ensure execution of strategy through strong vendor relationships, clear SLA’s and effective vendor relationship management systems.
  • Design maintenance and readiness frameworks for depot operations across new, growing and mature markets globally.
  • Define and own key operational metrics that drive continuous improvement across Fleet Operations that enables responsiveness to demand while keeping long-term Company plans in mind.
  • Facilitate effective processes and a problem-solving culture using Lean and theory of constraints principles within organization
  • Ingrain safety culture throughout Fleet Operation and depots by partnering cross-functionally on Safety Management Systems and Quality Management Systems and implementing effective training and safety protocols
  • Develop service and partner management Standard Operating Procedures and Service Playbooks to support multiple forms of deployment of the Waymo Driver.

At a minimum, we’d like you to have:

  • 15+ years of Operational and Engineering experience and 10+ years in leadership roles
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence senior internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Proven ability to scale technical and service organizations through systems, processes, partners and people development
  • Experience implementing lean process methodologies and designing processes for scale
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse team of stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, technicians, manufacturing, and program managers
  • Ability to be responsive outside of normal business hours as needed

It’s preferred if you have:

  • MBA or equivalent
  • Experience with robotics or autonomous vehicles
  • BS in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or related field


The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.

$277,000—$345,000 USD
