Lead the Breakthrough Technology (BTT) function within CSL Global Pathogen Safety (GPS). You will identify, evaluating and advocate innovative concepts and technologies with tangible benefits relating to pathogen safety within the CSL framework of BTT governance. You will also lead the global GPS Translational Research&Innovation (TR&I) team.
Your responsibilities include
a) monitoring the pulse of technology trends in the area of pathogen safety for plasma-derived, recombinant, cell&gene therapy products and vaccines,
b) defining the scope and requirements for GPS BTT innovation projects in collaboration with leadership and propose corresponding proof-of-concept studies,
c) establishing and managing effective networks and collaborations with industrial and academic partners,
d) working with Business Development and Legal teams incl, and
e) supervising the global GPS TR&I team, responsible for applied pathogen safety research and resulting publications.
You combine a track record in innovation and a understanding of technologies applicable to pathogen safety, an interest in learning and assessing emerging technologies and a business mindset.
Due to the global nature of the position, you will participate in global teleconference meetings outside of local business hours and will travel domestically and internationally. You will be located near Waltham, MA or Holly Springs, NC. A hybrid arrangement is possible.
Reporting to the Head of Global Pathogen Safety, you will have direct reports of a Senior Manager and Scientists.
Anticipate future strategic pathogen safety needs, seek new opportunities and identify impactful technologies with tangible benefits for CSL’s plasma-derived, recombinant and cell&gene therapy business by attending relevant meetings/congresses and performing literature and patent searches.
Initiate, establish and maintain collaborations with academic and industrial providers of new technologies and prepare the legal grounds (e.g. CDA, MTA, milestone-based contracts) to assess a technology through collaboration with different groups within CSL, academic organizations, industry partners and contract research laboratories.
Apply for and manage the necessary budget supporting the technology assessment.
Guide, coordinate and track internal and external assessment activities/studies as part of the endorsed established collaborations, and brief line management and governance bodies to promote an educated decision on how to proceed with a technology.
Support the hand-over of the technology to the receiving site or department.
You will lead the global GPS Research&Innovation team on applied pathogen safety research, including people development to build an effective team.
Ph.D., Masters (or equivalent) in Virology, Biochemistry, Biology or related field
Minimum 10 years of experience in biologicals R&D. Experience in people management required. Basic knowledge of biological manufacturing processes and pathogen safety requirements for both plasma derived and mammalian recombinant therapies or vaccines. Experience working across sites and as part of international teams.
