The Director of Global Payroll will manage the global payroll teams at a hyper-growth SaaS company with operations in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, Asia and expanding! This leader will be a key partner in developing and implementing strategies to systematically scale the payroll operations and related accounting efficiently while maintaining quality, accuracy, internal controls and compliance. This is a high impact position within the finance organization that requires a strong ability to foster outstanding relationships with employees and senior partners across multiple business entities and functions including HR, legal, tax, accounting, FP&A, etc. This role will report to the Chief Accounting Officer.
Responsibilities
- Oversee teams of domestic and international payroll. Design and implement workflow and internal controls to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately, timely and in compliance with International, federal and local, state, country specific laws and regulations; and substantiated by sufficient set of underlying documentation and support.
- Oversee full-cycle processing and accounting of US and International payroll for 1,500+ employees in US, Canada, UK and Europe and all off-cycle payroll as deemed necessary.
- Manage partnership with Ultimate Software (UKG) to optimize system functionality and exploit opportunities for process automation.
- Recruit and develop the best-in-class talent that will be subject matter experts and points of contact for all internal and external payroll inquiries.
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to scale and optimize the global payroll administration that can support the headcount growth each year and in new geo territories. Coordinate regional efforts towards global process standardization while allowing local flexibility when required.
- Monitor the latest payroll and wage laws and regulations to maintain tax and benefits compliance around deductions, withholdings, garnishments, classifications, employee mobility tracking, etc.
- Ensure quarterly and annual filings and reports are reviewed, approved and filed timely and accurately (941s, W2s, 1042s, etc.)
- Participate in designing and implementing internal controls and documentation in accordance with SOX and International/Federal/State compliance requirements.
- Support the corporate accounting team by participating in month/quarter/year-end financial closing activities as well as external audits: Payroll journal entries, payroll and benefits related account reconciliations.
- Actively engage with cross functional leadership to keep abreast of the business objectives, priorities and strategies to enable collaborative and supportive relationships as well as provide value added services to each other.
- Lead, coach, mentor and train the team; take an active interest in their growth and develop the next generation of leaders.
- Lead or assist on special tasks and projects as needed (e.g. external/statutory/compliance audits and filings, entity set up, system implementation, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, business, or other relevant or related field or equivalent experience.
- Preferred payroll certifications (CPP, PHR, HRIP)
- 10+ years of progressive experience overseeing the processing of multi-state and multi-country payrolls for large exempt and non-exempt workforce with hands on responsibilities.
- Experience transforming a payroll function to maximize automation, scalability and cost effectiveness
- UKG knowledge and experience preferred; must have deep knowledge and experience working with payroll vendors and platform technologies
- Strong project management experience including the ability to manage project plans, dependencies, critical path activities and milestones
- Highly analytical, aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and demands.
- Excels in hyper-growth environments; versatile, capable of managing multiple projects and tasks.
- Able to communicate effectively with teammates and various levels of management as well as external contacts.
- Reliable, with a strong work ethic.
- Demonstrates professionalism and maturity in handling confidential information.

The US base salary range for this role is below.
$116,900—$230,500 USD
