Director, LGBTQ+ Student Services

The Director leads and provides oversight of daily operations for LGBTQ+ Student Services by promoting campus culture of inclusion, specifically around gender identity and expression. Oversees recruitment and training of Interns and staff and chairs relevant committees and task forces. Builds relationships with community agencies and on-campus service providers. Consults with CARE Team, addressing student crisis and assessing risk and builds and maintains on-campus relationships, promoting referral services. Identifies creative proactive opportunities to support students through outreach, programming, and engagement. Interacts professionally, demonstrating equity and inclusion, with all internal and external stakeholders. Works to remove any stigma associated with basic needs support and seeking help. Serves within the Administrator On Call (AOC) rotation responding to campus crisis. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in communications, social work, political science, education or related field.
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience handling complex and confidential matters.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work, education, business administration, political science, gender studies, communication, or related field.
  • Supervision experience.
  • Prior work experience in higher education
  • Prior program management and student advocacy experience.
  • Crisis response experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work successfully across a broad spectrum of internal and external CSU community partners
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to advocate for inclusive change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to resolve, properly triage and prioritize complex issues.
  • Skilled in leading and/or programs implementation.
  • Ability to assess programs and policies as well as identify areas of opportunities for improvement.
