Position Summary:
Together with Sr. Director Marine Procurement, HO Procurement, and other CMA CGM Group management staff, strategically engage Marine Service Providers to obtain services at the best price and value. Marine Service Providers include port authorities, stevedores, terminal operators, vessel towage, vessel pilots, vessel line handlers, barge operators, maintenance and repair providers, etc.
Assist the Sr. Director Marine Procurement with development and execution of vendor strategy and departmental objectives.
Assume lead negotiating position as required, or where assigned.
Assist the Sr. Director Marine Procurement with team staff development and work prioritization.
Support vendor engagement and negotiation efforts through cost analysis and measurement, strategic planning, vendor evaluation, and internal alignment of short, mid and long term service and cost objectives.
Support Sr. Director in all needed tasks ranging from contract management, data analysis, presentation, tactical and strategic planning, and negotiation.
Liaise with various internal departments to ensure common efforts to promote lowest possible cost and best service, including Cost Control, Port Operations, Logistics, Trade, and Sales.
The marine procurement function has direct reporting structure within CCA, but also dotted line reporting to the Terminal and Port procurement team in Marseille who services as central point of authority and approval for recommended agreements.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
Prepare reference material and cost analysis for development of vendor strategies, vendor service reviews and negotiations.
Actively participate in phone, email and in-person communication and negotiation with marine service providers. This communication must be timely and professional.
Liaise with various internal departments to ensure common efforts to address issues and promote lowest possible cost and best service. These departments include, but are not limited to, Cost Control, Port Operations, Logistics, Trade, and Sales.
Maintain timely and accurate records of efforts and actions, and organize focus to ensure contract terms, incentives and expirations are monitored and leveraged to CMA Group benefit.
Promote cost savings initiatives and keep supporting measurements. Prepare reports for management
Work closely with Marseille Procurement, CCA legal and others to publish rate/contract documents, interpret contract application, and actively resolve open items and disputes.
Build strong working relationships both internally and with key suppliers, VSA partners and industry professionals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Firm understanding of terminology related to Terminal and Port Operations.
Overall knowledge of Terminal, Port, and Intermodal Operations
Familiarity with contract structures and application
Experience with vendor management activities including service development and rate and impactful contract negotiations
Strong written language skills
Confident presentation of self for in-person meetings and negotiations
Require proficiency of Excel for creation and manipulation of Excel spreadsheets including formulas and pivot tables.
Require working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint software for creation of documents.
Require self-driven individual who can work unsupervised for extended periods of time.
Must have ability to shift quickly from topic to topic and prioritize work based on deadlines and level of urgency.
Must be able to investigate and analyze an issue to determine correct course of action
Must be able to set priority of work on daily, weekly and monthly basis
Demonstrated skills in vendor negotiations
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree required.
6+ years of general experience required
4+ years of industry experience required
