Director of Quality

Pay Range: $150,000/yr - $170,000/yr

Plans and directs activities of team members concerned with the quality control and quality assurance of manufacturing processes, materials, and the production of precision parts for Medical Device Components. Will be responsible to maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure business objectives, quality objectives, and key performance indicators are met in an efficient and effective manner.
Your responsibilities:
  • Oversees all aspects of the Quality Management Systems for the San Diego, CA and Mexicali, MX operations.
  • Leads the quality department by overseeing staffing requirements, development, and performance management.
  • Oversees all quality audit programs and corrective and preventive action systems.
  • Manages internal and external complaint handling system, adverse incident reporting, and review of trends.
  • Manages non-conformances involving product or the quality system.
  • Develops quality assurance goals and systems, including prioritization, resourcing, selection and development of Quality department staff; ensures that proper quality skill sets consistent with new technologies are developed.
  • Establishes a quality plan to achieve site goals and objectives. Develops executive level reports on each location’s QMS performance.
  • Works with Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Customer Service, and Sales to integrate quality controls into the production process.
  • Implements a comprehensive supplier assessment and monitoring program.
  • Provides a robust Quality Assurance system that emphasizes prevention over inspection.
  • Develops effective quality training programs in conjunction with other operational departments.
  • Develops and implements site policies and procedures on quality systems.
  • Directs employees engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, precision parts, or process quality, and reliability.
  • Reviews and coordinates review of quality agreements.
  • Manages department risks and communicates concerns.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements for the role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in medical manufacturing
  • ASQE certification and advanced degree preferred
  • 8-10 years of leadership/supervisory experience in a quality management role.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO:9001, 13485, 21 CFR 820
  • Excellent math abilities and working knowledge of data analysis/statistical methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively with impact and/or authority to a range of audiences both internally and externally.
  • Expertise in a broad range of quality systems and tools.
  • Experience leading projects.
  • Solid understanding of customer specifications and standards.
