Director of Tax

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Strategy: Identify opportunities to optimize tax planning, minimize tax risks, and maximize tax savings in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • National Tax Compliance: Oversee and manage all tax compliance activities, including preparation and review of tax filings, ensuring accurate and timely submission of all tax returns, payments, and disclosures. Stay abreast of tax legislation and regulatory changes globally, assessing their impact on the company and proactively addressing any compliance requirements.
  • Tax Planning and Optimization: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and executive leadership, to develop and execute tax planning initiatives. Identify opportunities to optimize the company's tax position, such as tax credits, incentives, and exemptions, while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Transfer Pricing: Develop and implement transfer pricing strategies to ensure appropriate allocation of revenue, expenses, and taxes among related entities in compliance with national transfer pricing rules. Manage intercompany transactions and documentation to support transfer pricing policies.
  • Tax Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate tax-related risks across the organization. Proactively monitor and manage tax audits, disputes, and inquiries from tax authorities, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve favorable resolutions.
  • Tax Reporting and Documentation: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely tax provision, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., ASC 740). Maintain appropriate tax documentation, supporting schedules, and records for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Build and lead a high-performing tax team, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting professional growth and development.
  • External Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for external tax advisors, auditors, and tax authorities. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and facilitate successful tax-related outcomes.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA and/or advanced degree in Taxation preferred.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in tax management, preferably within the software industry or related technology sector.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in tax planning, compliance, and optimization strategies.
  • Proven experience in managing tax audits, disputes, and inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to research complex tax issues and communicate them effectively
  • Strong leadership and people management abilities, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Greenville, SC or Franklin, NC
  • Remote/Hybrid options available
