Purpose of the Position:

The Director, People Operations Technology will play a strategic role in the management and optimization of UMA’s HRIS and related systems and contribute to the discovery, testing, implementation, migration, and adoption of future people software and technology solutions. The ideal candidate will be a visible presence to the organization, driving training and adoption of tools, processes, and policies that heavily impact the employee lifecycle.

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

  • Anticipated starting salary of $135,000; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Functional:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the strategic vision for the HRIS and HR Technology function, aligning it with overall HR and institutional goals. Drive the adoption of innovative HR technology solutions to enhance efficiency, improve data-driven decision making and support the evolving needs of the business. Ensure strong partnerships and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • New Systems Implementations: Lead the end-to end implementation of new HRIS and HR Technology systems, from planning and requirements gathering to system configuration, testing, training, and go-live. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful system integration and user adoption.
  • HRIS Management & Optimization: Oversee day-to-day operation and administration of the current HRIS system (UKG), ensuring data accuracy, system integrity, and security. Continuously assess the performance and effectiveness of existing HRIS systems and processes. Identify opportunities for system enhancements, process improvements, and automation to drive operational efficiency and enhance user experience. Actively participate in system upgrade projects and implementations.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions: Lead the seamless integration of acquired entities into our institution, ensuring efficient assimilation of systems, resources and processes. Develop and execute comprehensive integration strategies, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive synergies, optimize operations and achieve post-acquisition goals.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with HRIS vendors, consultants, and other service providers. Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate contracts, and manage service-level agreements to ensure high-quality services and support.
  • Performance Management: Spearhead an exceptional goal-setting and performance-management experience via a best-of-breed tool, driving both adoption and accountability.
  • Change Management: Develop and implement change-management strategies to drive user adoption and minimize resistance during system implementations and upgrades. Provide effective communication, training and support to stakeholders.
  • Budgeting and Resource Planning: Collaborate with HR and IT leadership to develop and manage the HRIS budget, including resource planning, cost estimation, and ROI analysis for HR technology initiatives.
  • Compliance and Data Integrity: Ensure compliance with applicable data privacy and protection regulations. Implement and maintain strong data governance practices to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of HR data within the HRIS system.
  • Industry and Technology Trends: Stay abreast of emerging HR technology trends, best practices, and regulatory changes. Evaluate new technologies and recommend innovative solutions that align with business needs and industry standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Provide people-focused leadership to the HRIS team, including performance management, coaching, professional development and career development.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that promotes innovation, accountability and continuous learning.
  • Develop career and development paths for each team member.
  • Set clear expectations for all team members, analyze goals, activities and results to determine action plans to improve individual and team performance per stated performance management guidelines.
Support Institutional Initiatives:
  • Keep current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress.
  • Engage in institutionally sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Support change initiatives that impact the organization and manage others through change.
  • Coordinate efforts between departments within UMA.
  • Ensure consistent application of UMA’s policies relating to team members in accordance with UMA’s mission and values, all applicable federal and state regulations, and all accrediting agencies standards and requirements.
Compliance:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follow all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, the Commission on Independent Education, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HR, with 5+ years in a hands-on HRIS management role and 3+ years of people management.
  • Extensive experience in leading large-scale HRIS implementations, including system selection, project management and change management.
  • Talent for simplifying complex systems and processes and crafting training to support user adoption.
  • Strong knowledge of HR processes, data management and HR best practices.
  • Proven history of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and critical thinking skills with the ability to translate business requirements into effective HR technology solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy regulations and security practices.
  • Exceptional communication and people skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders and all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts.
  • Experience with HRIS systems such as UltiPro/UKG or similar enterprise-level platform.
  • Experience with working amidst competing priorities and escalating unresolved conflicts between priorities as needed.
  • Able to communicate in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Able to work in, support, and interact professionally in a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Preferred:
  • HR certifications (e.g., PHR, SPHR) or technical certifications are highly desirable.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with leading-edge Human Resource Information Systems.
  • Experience with related HR technology (e.g., benefits/total rewards, performance management, learning management and applicant tracking systems).
Working Environment:
  • Office, onsite or virtual.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping, and squatting.
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
