Overview

The Director will help shape and execute strategic communications that advance the scientific narrative, awareness, and thought leadership of Alnylam’s industry-leading RNAi platform and pipeline. This role will be responsible for leading internal and external communications of Alnylam’s President and the R&D Leadership team (RDLT). The successful candidate will be able to understand and translate complex science into clear, concise messages for presentations, press materials, talking points, Q&As, articles, and other assets for employees and external audiences, including investors, media, patients, scientists, and healthcare professionals. As part of the Investor Relations & Communications team, reporting to the Senior Director, Head of Product Communications, this role will collaborate closely with the team to implement impactful communications initiatives to elucidate the promise of RNAi and our pipeline.

The successful candidate will be an experienced communicator with strong scientific knowledge and background with the proven ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with stakeholders and across functions within a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate will be able to scale R&D Communications to the next level as we continue to grow and bring our therapeutics to market.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive and execute communications plans and media strategies that drive understanding of Alnylam’s RNAi platform to elevate visibility

• Support the Research & Development Leadership Team with developing content for internal channels, including town hall presentations, talking points, videos, and blogs to boost engagement

• Enhance executive visibility and R&D Thought Leadership with earned media and byline opportunities

• Serve as a liaison for media outlets

• Effectively manage relationships with PR firm and other vendors

• Write Q&As, messages, press releases, and presentations in support of pipeline milestones

• Collaborate with Creative team to develop engaging content for digital and social channels

• Manage special assignments from concept to completion in partnership with members of Research & Development Leadership Team, as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field required, advanced degree preferred (e.g., PharmD/PhD)

• Minimum of 10+ years of experience required, preferably in biotech, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare in a communications role

• Exceptional writing and editing skills; strong oral communications skills and ability to convey complex science for a variety of audiences

• Ability to deliver products that engage, excite, and motivate audiences

• Ability to work independently and use sound judgment in decision-making, including setting and managing priorities and meeting competing deadlines

• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

• Comfortable with accepting feedback and adapting to deliver the desired product

• Ability to interact with all levels of the company top to bottom, including senior management

• Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high quality and timely work product

• Strong project management skills are preferred.
