Director, Revenue Accounting

As the Director of Revenue Accounting, you will lead the revenue recognition process including compliance with ASC 606. You will establish the long-term path of the revenue accounting organization and will be a very visible presence in go-to-market decision making, supporting difficult contract negotiations, and influencing decision making on complex problems of considerable importance across the organization.

As the Director, Revenue Accounting, you'll get to:

  • Be the subject matter expert on revenue including ASC 606.
  • Stay current on new revenue accounting rules and help develop appropriate policies and processes.
  • Review customer arrangements for proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and revenue recognition accounting standards.
  • Provide education to the business on complex revenue matters including ASC 606 and communicate the best practices to critical audiences across the organization.
  • Research and review technical revenue accounting guidance, create technical memos, and provide analysis and conclusions related to various customer contracts or new technical revenue pronouncements.
  • Maintain an ongoing partnership with FP&A to ensure revenue forecasting for existing and future revenue streams is consistent with US GAAP revenue recognition standards; advise FP&A timely on revenue transactions impacting forecasts, BvAs and related.
  • Communicate with and educate finance and non-finance personnel on revenue accounting guidance, policies and procedures as well as inputs on structuring of customer arrangements.
  • Work closely and help manage complex transactions with the billing and deal desk teams and other stakeholders in the business.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships across Customer Service, Legal, Sales, FP&A Accounting and Tax teams.
  • Ensure the integrity of global revenue and assist in the development of new product offers that may emerge over time.
  • Liaison with External auditors and support documentation for the year-end audits.
  • Lead the ongoing revenue automation process, and work with different teams to prioritize further potential system enhancements and development projects related to revenue.
  • Lead and oversee the monthly close for revenue, Review journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statement analytics for revenue.
  • Develop with the help of the Internal Audit team a robust and effective control environment and maintain controls across the different revenue processes.

You will be a good fit if you have:

  • 8+ years of experience including both public (Big four preferred) and private (Pre-IPO preferred).
  • CPA certification or equivalent.
  • Tech startup exposure, SAAS + Ad business preferred.
  • Prior experience leading and managing the revenue accounting close process and experience with automation of operational processes.
  • Experience with Netsuite and Salesforce.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP (ASC 606) and revenue recognition.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally at all levels in an efficient manner.
  • Experience reviewing contracts.

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents a reasonable estimated compensation range for this role: the estimated pay range for this role, if based in Palo Alto,CA, is $177,300 - 226,000.

Please note that this information is provided for those hired in Palo Alto, CA only. Compensation for candidates outside of Palo Alto, CA will be based on the candidate's specific work location.

Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location and may be more or less than the amount shown above.
