ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a Director, Staff Learning, Development, and Performance to create, revise and oversee staff development systems, structures, and practices to ensure staff belonging and deepen staff growth and impact toward our mission. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who understands the critical role that staff well-being, professional growth, and retention plays in supporting organizational and ultimately scholar success. The Director, Staff Learning, Development, and Performance is responsible for ensuring that staff development is of the highest quality and impact. The position supports and develops staff across the network through ongoing structures to support regular coaching, development, and management of staff toward operational and professional goals. The Director, Staff Learning, Development, and Performance reports to the Vice President, Performance Management and will work with leaders across the organization, both at school sites and at the Home Office, to ensure substantial staff development occurs in accordance with the Alliance commitment to Adult Wellness and Belonging.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and lead staff learning and development

  • Collaborate with the Performance Management, HR, Employee Engagement, and the School Leader Development teams on the vision for staff learning and development. Implement the vision via codification of structures, practices, manager development, and job-embedded learning for Alliance staff
  • Design, lead, and collaborate with others to provide regular professional development sessions for staff to address system-wide development needs and advance the professional skills of Alliance staff
  • Support the refinement of the Performance Management processes
  • Play a key role in designing and delivering Alliance's Performance Management training for managers and employees
  • Collaborate with Staffing and HR to oversee aspects of the new-hire and new-supervisor onboarding program and training; create/develop/deliver Alliance orientation; help ensures a well-organized, positive onboarding experience
  • Partner with other Talent teams on projects related to employee retention, recognition, and engagement
  • Support key functions of our Teacher Development system including ongoing trainings for leaders and staff as well as weekly, monthly and semesterly reporting and follow-up

Develop vision, goals, and strategy for staff learning and development in partnership with the VP, Performance Management

  • Contribute to the learning and development strategy of the Talent Team
  • Engage stakeholders to better understand skills, well-being, and development needs
  • Capture, share, and analyze staff data trends to assess needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the team to ensure a coherent development approach for staff

Team Leadership

  • Organize, oversee, and execute annual strategic planning process: robust stakeholder engagement, analysis of needs and recommended changes, and related guiding documents
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the learning and development initiatives

THE IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE

  • Strong knowledge and experience in talent and organizational development with firm grasp of how they impact company performance
  • Experience with the performance management processes, including training and advising managers
  • Excellent ability to create and lead learning for other adults, including strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage the audience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated success building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships
  • A proven track record of leading, managing, and coaching staff to increase staff performance, wellness and belonging in an urban school system
  • Knowledge of, or experiences with, urban school environments and school cultures
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-layered organization and build strong relationships with home office and school-based colleagues
  • Strong planning skills and experience in managing complex projects to success
  • Motivated, positive, and energetic spirit to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to Alliance's core beliefs and educational philosophy
  • Staff development and performance management leadership experience
  • At least four (4) years of progressive professional work experience in a related field such as performance management or staff learning and development, and a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education, public administration or policy, or a related field

OR

  • At least 6 years progressive professional work experience in a related field such as performance management or staff learning and development, and a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED)

WORK LOCATION

This position will work from a home office in the greater Los Angeles area, with travel to school sites. The successful candidate will be given a $400 work from home set-up allowance and receive a monthly stipend of $100.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In alignment with our commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience as well as generous retirement and health benefits. This position is exempt.

  • Compensation: Alliance provides a competitive salary. Based on relevant prior work experience, our salary range for this role is $91,670 - $133,900. Starting July 1, 2023, the salary range for this role will be $100,00 - $140,500.
  • Relocation: Individuals residing outside of the Greater Los Angeles area are eligible for a relocation bonus of $5,000 for individuals and $7,500 new staff with families/partners.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plans options that are covered at 100% of monthly premiums for individual employees and at least $1,000 per month towards family plan premiums.
  • Retirement: Alliance Home Office employees are eligible for a retirement allowance equal to 7.5% of their regular yearly earnings.
  • Paid Leave: Regular full-time 12-month employees accrue vacation at a rate of 10 hours/month for a maximum of 180 hours in addition to 10 national holidays as well as a week for Spring Break and a week for Winter Break.
  • Professional Development: At Alliance, we believe in supporting staff growth and development. Home Office staff are allocated $500 per year for professional development expenses.
