Corporate Strategy & Development
The Corporate Strategy and Development job is responsible for leading major corporate consulting / M&A / competitive intelligence engagements for internal clients. As part of this, this job provides advice and thought leadership to senior TIAA executives, including the CEO. This job leads engagement management of broad cross-functional internal teams, including conducting interviews with internal clients, forming sophisticated hypotheses, designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, synthesizing conclusions and insights into recommendations, and executing strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

Oversees Corporate Strategy and Development’s operations to ensure quality, service, efficiency and cost-effective resource management
Provides advanced expertise to engagement teams in leading the identification, understanding and framing of complex business problems and needs.
Leads evaluation, advanced planning, analysis, solution development and execution for engagements.
Prepares executive-level presentations for the Executive Committee and Board members to garner approval for strategic recommendations and transactions.
Manages performance of Corporate Strategy and Development team through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional products and engagement, motivation, and development of team.
Provides meaningful support to other Corporate Strategy and Development teams to ensure highly integrated team collaboration.
Identifies and prioritizes product and service improvement opportunities and creates plans for implementation.
Develops complex forecasting models, budgets, resource allocation and plans for projects.

Role Summary:
Through three functions- Strategic Consulting, Corporate Development, and Competitive Intelligence - the Corporate Strategy & Development (CS&D) team helps TIAA address its most important strategic questions. The team was created in 2010 to provide objective advice to senior executives and to serve as a source of high potential talent to TIAA.
The Director, Strategic Consulting will act as an engagement manger on internal consulting projects. The Director leads engagement management of broad cross-functional internal teams, including managing junior employees, forming sophisticated hypotheses, designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, synthesizing conclusions and insights into recommendations, and executing strategic initiatives. Additionally, the Director is responsible for preparing presentations for the CEO, other members of the Executive Committee and members of the TIAA Board of Trustees and TIAA Board of Overseers.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead project teams in the identification, understanding and framing of complex business problems and needs

Lead evaluation, advanced planning, analysis, solution development and execution for engagements

Responsible for practice, staff performance and development and mentoring/managing junior team members

Oversee financial modeling (e.g. cost/profitability) and wide range of business analyses (product, business, financial performance, market positioning, etc.)

Oversee CS&D’s operations to ensure quality, service, efficiency and cost-effective resource management
Qualifications:
-
5+ years of post-MBA experience (or 7+ years) in top-tier management consulting, internal strategy, or financial services preferred

Self-starter, high energy and detail-oriented; ability to oversee complex work independently

High degree of comfort solving complex, open-ended issues with imperfect data or high degree of uncertainty
-
Prior experience effectively managing relationships with executives, multiple teams, complex processes, critical services, and cross-functional projects

Experience with corporate strategy principles; experience with data analytics, financial statement analysis, financial modeling, managerial accounting, corporate finance, and/or project finance a plus

Experience working in a matrixed management structure, including an ability to influence and partner with business unit leaders and their team

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to be resourceful in complex situations
Base Pay Range: $160,100/yr. - $266,800/yr.
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
