Director, US Integrated Communications & Influencer Engagement (Shiseido)

Job Summary:
The Director, US Integrated Communications is a strategic, dynamic and talented Communications leader with a successful track record of leading earned media, influencer relationships and brand partnerships that will advance the brand Shiseido strategy in driving awareness, interest and engagement among new, existing and prospective consumers. The Director has a strong knowledge of the beauty industry, thrives on driving change, has established relationships within the beauty/fashion/lifestyle space. This role also requires a keen understanding of the brand values and an ability to establish a vision with key external partners and lead teams to flawless execution. This role supports the Vice President, US Integrated Marketing by ensuring that all initiatives support the brand strategy – ensuring targeting, budgets, campaign priorities and assets are aligned to the business needs.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategy
Lead and develop brand communication strategy that promotes and protects our brand story, elevates our luxury positioning, and amplifies our Artists. Establish benchmarks and KPIs to enable consistent reporting on progress and success sharing with a focus on brand awareness, engagement, relevance and preference
Craft positioning brand strategy with compelling and persuasive key messages and themes that honor the overall brand narrative

Influencer Relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide network of talent, tastemakers, industry leaders and partners who embody the culture and values of Shiseido with a focus on skincare authorities, luxury brand partners, key opinion leaders/brand ambassadors
Oversee influencer relations and selection, leading negotiation and contracting of influencers and talent
Ideate and evaluate opportunities for partnerships to grow brand awareness and reach
Ideate around impactful influencer programming, collaborations and partnerships to support strategic launches
Explore opportunities for product integrations (film, TV, etc.) that will work to deliver positive transferable brand equity to Shiseido and increase cultural relevancy
Partner with paid media team to ideate around 360 launch strategies and influencer support (such as content creation optimized for paid media)
Oversee the team’s relationships with mega, mid-tier and micro influencers to drive organic brand support and VIT

Media Relations/Communications
Lead creation and execution of media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, online and social media. Coordinate all public relations activities for the brand.
Oversee statements, cross-company coordination, crisis communications and development of materials for key interviews, meetings and event
Maintain relationships with key editors at KPI outlets

Storytelling and Sustainability
Ideate and develop big ideas to support brand equity/DNA, Japanese heritage and drive forward US communications strategy to maximize earned media across all platforms
Oversee sustainability strategy, partnering with HQ teams and amplifying through digital channels as well as developing innovative ways to expand our existing initiatives (such as World Surf League)
Manage relationship with brand’s charitable efforts (Skin Cancer Foundation Partnership) and build out communications plans and go to market strategies to support our key brand tenets

Activation and Management
Lead key communication efforts for key launches and initiatives in close partnership with cross functional teams
Manage Director and Assistant Manager of Global Communications
Drive forward-thinking press and influencer events; oversee coordination of logistics including production, venue selection, catering, etc. with the support of external partners
Provide strong leadership and oversee the teams daily projects and responsibilities to elevate the team’s overall work
Approve all seeding strategies, product forecasts and inventory oversight for all new and existing product launches
Oversee and manage the implementation of the annual Ratings and Review program for all key launches and core products supporting Shiseido.com and retailers

Qualifications & Competencies:
Strong understanding and passion for the beauty and cosmetics industry
Bachelor of Arts degree preferably in Communications, English or Journalism.
Minimum 10 years of experience in public relations/communications in agency or in-house, excluding internships. Experience in beauty PR preferred.
Extensive knowledge of the influencer and media landscape in the US
Strong relationships with influencers and editors (digital/print)
Professional writing skills, including strategies, press releases, media alerts, talking points, and guidelines amongst others
Strong proficiency in budget management
Demonstrates a high level of maturity, resourcefulness, and poise in executive and corporate setting
Must work well with a large team in an open-office setting
Holds a strong work ethic and standard for which tasks and projects are completed (Attention to detail is a must)
Must be organized, creative, detail-oriented, able to prioritize multiple projects and possess an advanced understanding of industry trends, competition and innovation.
Skillful at building corporate allies, especially among key business partners, with a record of demonstrated ability to exercise excellent judgement consistently and build rapport quickly with both internal and external stakeholders of all levels
A values-based leader with a growth mindset, able to develop talent, lead by example and motivate others
Knowledge of current trends, media industry news, entertainment/pop culture
Consumer focused decision maker with strong understanding of social/digital marketing
A strong sense of urgency, ability to manage details and projects while responding to changing priorities and feedback.
Ability to work independently and utilize sound judgment.
Software expertise – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
