The Director of Finance will play a key role in helping the healthtech industry's leading venture-stage firms build their businesses by providing in-depth financial and analytical guidance. This person will operate with a high level of independence and play a leadership role within the Propeller service team. For a senior finance professional looking for long-term job stability and a CFO-track position; this is an excellent opportunity to learn the complexities and interdependencies of early-stage, high-growth companies.


Propeller’s Healthtech team has been a partner to some of the top emerging healthtech brands of the last decade. Current and alumni healthtech clients include: Boulder Care, Mood Health, Quit Genius, Nirvana Health, Healthify, Wild Health, PlushCare, Aging 2.0 and more. 


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Solid experience in firms’ business operations and ability to set up systems and processes to ensure firm-wide controls 
  • Strong ability to understand the dynamics of an early stage growth firm in the healthtech space, use critical thinking and enable the firm’s management to make strategic decisions
  • Evaluate financial/accounting processes, propose improvements and oversee implementation
  • Direct Accounting Team in finalizing monthly closes
  • Oversee financial planning/analysis, cash resource management & budgeting 
  • Create financial models & provide ad-hoc financial analysis 
  • Oversee client relationship management and board reporting 
  • Draft management discussion and analysis reports 


Qualifications and Capabilities:


  • BA in accounting or finance or related discipline
  • 8+ years of accounting and financial experience, with 3-4 years experience specifically in the healthcare or healthtech industry
  • Knowledge of the US healthcare system, including insurance coverage, compliance, and regulatory environment
  • Deep experience with payors across the commercial-public continuum (traditional, HDHP, Medicare Advantage, Medicare, Medicaid)
  • Experience managing revenue cycle (both patient- and payor-side collections experience) including development and maintenance of accrual basis charge-to-collection waterfalls
  • Ability to build complex financial models and scenario analyses that include forecasting revenue by provider and/or by CPT code on a unit economics basis
  • Deep understanding of software revenue recognition (SW license revenue, SaaS revenue, Subscription revenue, etc)
  • Work with multi-entity structures with specific knowledge of the MSO/PC model a plus 
  • Experience with multiple EMRs and/or VMS systems and integrations with proprietary digital health products a plus
  • Grant accounting experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and client relationship skills
